Thank you to Disabilities Minister @stephenctimms and colleagues at the @DWPgovuk for attending a recent roundtable with people living with arthritis about the review into Personal Independence Payments (PIP).
@stephenctimms@DWPgovuk With one of the highest number of claimants, it is critical that any reforms to PIP has the needs of people living with arthritis at its heart, better takes account of fluctuation and makes the whole PIP application process less dehumanising.
Arthritis and MSK conditions have some of the biggest NHS waiting times and significantly impact on people’s ability to work.

✂ The Universal Credit (UC) and PIP Bill no longer includes PIP.
And it's thanks to all who united against cuts to disability benefits.
But it's not over yet. Cuts to UC will still plunge disabled people into poverty.
We can't accept that. We won't. And neither should you ❌
"To truly deliver, [the 10 Year Health Plan] must be backed by sustained clear action and funding, and inclusive design with the needs of people with long-term conditions such as #arthritis at its heart." Read CEO @DeborahAlsina's response in full: https://t.co/wG10BLywlp
🚨 The government's Universal Credit (UC) and PIP bill was passed yesterday evening.
Plans to cut disability benefits are still going forward. However, cuts to PIP will be removed.
But it still includes measures that will rip thousands of pounds in support from disabled people.
Over 40,000 people took action to tell their MP to vote against welfare cuts and protect people with #arthritis. This evening, MPs have voted to pass the Government's Welfare Reform Bill.
❗️ Today, MPs will be voting on whether to make record cuts to support for disabled people who need it in the future.
Disabled people are already overrepresented at food banks.
We’re joining food banks, charities and hundreds of you to encourage MPs to say NO to the cuts.

Tomorrow, MPs vote on the Universal Credit and PIP Bill. Over 35,000 people have taken action. The UK Gov is listening – but changes to the Bill are not enough.

🚨 BREAKING: The UK Government is finally starting to listen to calls from Versus Arthritis and the wider community on their devastating cuts to disability benefits.
🚨 BREAKING: Over 100 MPs stand up against devastating cuts to PIP. This could stop the UK Government’s plan in its tracks.
Almost 30,000 people have taken action and emailed their MP. It’s working.
But we can’t stop now.

Thank you to @drcarolinej for speaking up for people living with #arthritis and MSK conditions in last week’s debate on long term conditions, and how changes to PIP risk disproportionately impacting people with MSK conditions.
We hope the Government will listen and think again.
