Richmond has had free buses since the pandemic. There have been zero layoffs with mass transit workers in the 5 years since Richmond implemented this and Ish’s stance that a public good for some inevitably results in a drop in quality of life for others is an all too common fallacy that so many buy into. Richmond receives their funding for free transportation from VA DOT grants and other federal funding. The question is never how will the government subsidize a public good. The question is will they. The money is always there.
