For years, Monroe’s roads fell behind.
An outdated plan couldn’t keep up with reality. So we changed course. New staff, smarter planning, and better roads you can feel. We’re just getting started.
Still a long way to go—but we finally have a plan.
Monroe is building its future on purpose.
That’s why we created the Greater Monroe Economic Development Department, a dedicated team focused on attracting the right kind of growth, growth that creates jobs, supports families, and protects taxpayers.
Because of that focus, Monroe is now set to welcome nearly 1,000,000 square feet of new manufacturing and industrial space. That means more jobs, a stronger tax base, and long-term economic stability without raising taxes on our citizens.
But economic development isn’t just about buildings. It’s about people.
Through our MonroeWorks initiative, we’ve built real partnerships that create real workforce pipelines from high school apprenticeships to hands-on training to career-ready programs through our community college system. These pathways prepare our students and residents for good-paying jobs right here in Monroe, so they can live, work, and thrive in the place they call home.
This is smart growth.
This is local opportunity.
This is leadership that plans ahead instead of playing catch-up.
We’re not chasing development. We’re shaping it.
Real results. Real leadership. And we’re just getting started.
It is Sunday afternoon here in Monroe, and this winter storm is here. Freezing rain, wind, the works.
But I want to take a second to recognize the unsung heroes out there right now. Our linemen.
They are geared up, trucks fueled, and ready to roll the second that call comes in. I could not be prouder of them. These are our neighbors and friends. Men who head out into the cold and dark so the rest of us can stay warm and safe at home.
And it is not just Monroe. I am thankful for every lineman across North Carolina who is about to step into the same mess. Climbing poles, restoring lines, and working through the night in conditions most people would not last ten minutes in.
To every one of you out there today and in the days ahead, thank you. From the bottom of my heart. You are a big part of how we get through storms like this.
Folks, stay safe. Check on your neighbors, especially our seniors. Keep your phones charged, keep a flashlight handy, and please slow down if you see crews working.
God bless our linemen, God bless Monroe, and God bless North Carolina.
This is how you MonroeStrong. Our Property Management crews are out salting facilities’ sidewalks.
We are family here in the City Of Monroe.
I am truly grateful for all of our City employees who look out for each other and our people.

The greatness of our city lies in our people, not the government. The role of Monroe city’s government is to allow our people to flourish. I will always stand for limited government, so people have the opportunity to.
🚓 Monroe is hiring! 🚓
In our city, we don’t just respect law enforcement—we stand with them. If you’re an officer looking for a community that values your service and backs the badge, Monroe is the place for you.
