This is the weakest argument I’ve ever seen in the Messi v Ronaldo debate.
One of the weakest arguments in the Messi vs Ronaldo debate is the attempt to separate “the best” from “the greatest.”
It sounds profound, but it quietly changes the question.
We’re trying to identify the greatest footballer, not the greatest biography.
The moment you say, “Messi is the best footballer, but Ronaldo is the greatest because of his mentality, discipline, influence, and life story,” you’ve stopped evaluating football and started evaluating the person.
Discipline, mentality, longevity, adaptability, and work ethic only matter because they produced footballing excellence. They’re not separate trophies to be counted alongside football they’re part of what made someone a great footballer in the first place.
If “greatness” can be decided by inspiration or personal influence, then the debate is no longer about football. It’s about who has the more compelling narrative. Donald Trump can be called the GOAT of football by these metrics.
The GOAT debate has always been about who was the greatest to ever play the game. How you weigh ability, production, trophies, longevity, and consistency is where people disagree.
But redefining “greatest” to mean “the better role model” doesn’t solve the debate.
He begins by claiming Messi is the better footballer, then quietly changes the meaning of “greatest” so Ronaldo can occupy a different category. Nice one there but we aint falling for that.
The question has never been, “Who lived the more admirable life?”
It has never been, “Who had the stronger mentality?”
It has never been, “Who inspired more people?”
The question is simple: Who is the greatest footballer?
The moment you elevate them above football itself, you’ve changed the subject.
Who is the greatest physicist?
Einstein because he changed physics?
Or another scientist because he inspired more people?
In almost every field, greatness refers primarily to excellence within that field.
Football shouldn’t suddenly become different.

LIONEL MESSI 🐐 🐐 🐐
🚨🗣️ Arsene Wenger: "When you analyze the World Cup today, the game is moving at a pace you have to be able to keep up with."
"For instance, the Asian teams were all eliminated because they couldn't match the INTENSITY and SPEED of the game. Nor do they have the technical quality to really compete."
"For me, the real question mark is Spain. If any team is capable of beating France, I’d say it’s Spain."
"That's because they have a higher level of technical skill than France and a culture of collective football that is unmatched anywhere else in the world."
