She doesn’t just steal scenes; she pillages them, seduces the camera, and still manages to drop one-liners with the self-awareness of someone who knows exactly what kind of movie she’s in.
Gabrielle's comedic timing and campiness are part of what makes this sword-and-sorcery movie work. 👠👩🎤 Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958)
This Atomic Age cult gem takes marital drama, mixes it with alien encounters, and then cranks it up to skyscraper proportions. Poor Nancy Archer, played with towering (literally) presence by Allison Hayes, is betrayed by her cheating husband and then zapped by a glowing space orb.
Instead of getting therapy, she gets supersized — stomping through town, crushing cars, and snatching her no-good man like a rag doll.
Allison Hayes wasn’t just a B-movie queen — she was a statuesque beauty who embodied the “larger-than-life” femme fatale in every sense. At nearly six feet tall herself, Hayes commanded the screen before special effects ever stretched her to 50 feet.

🐜 Empire of the Ants (1977) - Joan Collins, in real estate shark mode, leads a group of potential buyers to a swampland development... only to discover the neighborhood's already been claimed by giant, irradiated ants with mind-control ambitions. Nice.
The oversized insect overlords were created using real ants composited with miniature sets and rear projection, a poor man’s optical trick.
Unfortunately, the effect was sabotaged with relentless shaky cam and random zooms to mask the bad compositing and rubber puppets. If you want clever lighting, scale models and fantastic creature sound design, Them! (1954) takes a can of RAID to Empire.
Cinematographer Reginald H. Morris does what he can, but even deep focus and diffused backlighting can’t save shots when the actors are clearly reacting to tennis balls on sticks. It’s a campy, clunky disaster — but in the best way possible.
Come for the ants, stay for a sweat-soaked Joan Collins running in heels through Florida swamps.

If you are a serious classic sci-fi fan, you've probably swooned a time or two over Anne Francis.
Most know her as Altaira - the sweet, innocent daughter of Dr. Morbius in Forbidden Planet. What a movie! Spacey electronic music, massive futuristic sets and, arguably, the most iconic robot ever to appear on screen.
MGM knew how much appeal there was for both Anne and Robby. That's why the studio went all in on publicity photos of them together!
But Anne had real range beyond the genre. Bad Day at Black Rock, Blackboard Jungle, and then Honey West — where she played TV's first starring female private investigator. Stylish, sarcastic, capable. That role alone should've rewritten how Hollywood thought about women on screen in the '50s.
But for us Monster Kids, Anne will live forever under the neon glow of Altair IV as Alta. She became the face of Atomic Age sci-fi: the cosmic dream girl of millions of boys.

🎃🔪 Gore-geous Ghoul of the Day: KATHLEEN KINMONT
Kathleen is best remembered for playing Kelly Meeker in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) - Sheriff Meeker's rebellious daughter who is brutally killed by Michael with a shotgun. Spoiler: He doesn't shoot her with it.
She appeared in the slasher film "Rush Week" (1989) and, a year later, Kathleen scored the title character in Bride of Re-Animator, opposite Jeffrey Combs.
She later returned to the genre with the lead in Psychotic (2002). While not horror, I'll mention that Kathleen appeared in the 1985 film Fraternity Vacation with fellow horror star Barbara Crampton and a young Tim Robbins. (See striped bikini photos. No, not of Tim Robbins. Of Kathleen.)
The first time I saw Kathleen on screen was in the television series The Master where she played "model #2". Viktor and I were only 10 years old when episode 8 of season 1 premiered on March 23, 1984. We didn't care anything about girls at the time, but I was crazy about ninjas.

House on Haunted Hill (1959) - Vincent Price plays Frederick Loren, a mustachioed millionaire with a flair for the theatrical and a duplicitous wife he'd happily toss into a vat of acid.
William Castle, the P.T. Barnum of B-horror, directs with all the finesse of a haunted carnival ride operator.
During its original theatrical run, Castle deployed his pièce de résistance, "Emergo": a plastic skeleton flying over theater audiences on a string - proof that Castle didn’t just want to scare you, he wanted you to remember the fun of being scared.

Salma went full vampire queen as Santánico Pandemonium in From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), delivering one of horror's most unforgettable entrances (especially for foot fetishists).
She followed that by joining the alien-invasion chaos of The Faculty (1998), battling extraterrestrial parasites.
Over the years she's continued to dip into dark fantasy and monster tales. In 2023, she stepped into Black Mirror Season 6, playing a warped version of herself.
Until the crypt opens again...

By 1942, Universal's Frankenstein had a problem - the Monster was no longer the most interesting thing in the room.
⚡🧟 THE GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN (1942)
The fourth entry in Universal's Frankenstein series, Bela Lugosi returns as Ygor, and it's largely his story now. Lugosi commands every scene, scheming to have his own brain transplanted into the Monster's body.
Lon Chaney Jr., fresh off The Wolf Man (1941), takes over the Monster from Boris Karloff. He lumbers competently enough, but his character brings none of
Karloff's pathos. I feel like a lot of the sadness and character depth is has slipped away.
Ghost is passable Saturday-matinee entertainment. The film is brisk, occasionally fun and certainly never boring. But the spark seems to have gone out of the franchise in that the monster has become a prop rather than the commanding presence.
Director Erle C. Kenton seems to handle the material with pedestrian regard. It's far removed from the expressionist grandeur of James Whale's versions.
The peak of the Universal Monsters classic era is generally considered to be 1931-1939. But with the outbreak of World War II, economic cutbacks and a lot
of talent being conscripted into the war led to creative decline.
Ghost is the film that most critics cite as the first clear symptom of that downward trend of dropping quality in favor of cheaper quantity.
By the end, the genuine horror of the early films had been replaced by outright comedy. The Ghost of Frankenstein didn't start the downward trend so much
as it was the first film where the trend became impossible to ignore.
Regardless, Viktor and I still love each episode in Universal's Frankenstein series - including The Ghost of Frankenstein!

Caroline Munro is not only a genuinely nice person, but she is intoxicatingly beautiful. She began as a model, famously the face of Lamb's Navy Rum. She broke into film with Casino Royale (1967).
Hammer Horror sank their fangs into her in Dracula A.D. 1972, then followed up with Captain Kronos – Vampire Hunter (1974). In between those films, Caroline gave a bust-out performance as Margiana in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973).
Caroline is most often remembered as Naomi, the bikini-clad assassin pilot in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). She also owned the B-movie scene with Starcrash (1978) and Maniac (1980), and even released music in the '80s.

🦇🩸 Yvonne De Carlo as LILY MUNSTER
Yvonne De Carlo was a Canadian-born actress who became one of Hollywood's biggest stars in the 1940s and 50s. She lit up the screen in a string of adventure films and westerns. But the role that cemented her place in pop culture forever was Lily Munster on The Munsters (1964–1966).
As the elegant, deadpan matriarch of Mockingbird Lane, Yvonne brought a warmth to a character who just happened to be a vampire. Lily wasn't played for cheap laughs. She was the heart of the family, the one keeping Herman in line, the kids fed, and Grandpa out of trouble.
Yvonne played her with perfect straight-faced sincerity, which made everything funnier. It's a role that could have been a career footnote for someone of her talent. Instead it became her legacy!

💋✨ Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers (1988) – This film reminds me of fishnets, cheap perfume and bad decisions. It also reminds me of menthols and my brother's third wife, but that's neither here nor there.
Directed by Fred Olen Ray, the plot follows a private detective searching for a missing girl who discovers she’s fallen in with a bizarre chainsaw-worshipping cult led by Gunnar Hansen—yes, Leatherface himself—looking like the world’s most exhausted cult leader after a three-day bender. His disciples include Linnea Quigley and Michelle Bauer, two reigning queens of 80s video store horror.
Let's be honest—nobody watches this for the plot. They come for blood splatter, hot chicks, power tools, and enough Karo syrup and stripper glitter to stock a warehouse.
The dialogue swings from hilariously awful to genuinely funny: "I'd stumbled into the middle of an evil, insidious cult of chainsaw worshipping maniacs..."
Yes, it's trash cinema, but in the most affectionate sense. Loud, ridiculous and utterly shameless. In other words, it's 1988 in a bottle... and I'm in the mood for shots.

Here’s a slice of 1950s British sci-fi where Martians don’t just want to conquer Earth...they want our men. Patricia Laffan is unforgettable as Nyah, striding around in black vinyl dominatrix gear with icy confidence.
Adrienne Corri and future Hammer scream queen Hazel Court round out the cast, while the film balances sci-fi thrills with delicious camp. The cast plays it completely straight, making the pulp dialogue and creaky effects even more entertaining.
