The idea that a government populated by ministers who, combined, have close to zero proper business experience, dribbling out small dollops of cash to companies they favour will play any role in finding ‘the UK’s first trillion-dollar firm’ really is one for the ages. If it ever happens it will be despite the government, not because of it. They really have no clue.
Former Qantas chair Richard Goyder reflects on the "bloody good job" he and then CEO Alan Joyce during the pandemic. Can't wait to read @mrjoeaston's take on this:
Hi @tahneejash, I note you mentioned this Indigenous youth was riding a motorbike immediately before his death. You don't mention it was stolen - why? @abcnews https://t.co/UZTEcefU7r
🚨 Tax specialists have uncovered a sleeper clause in the federal budget bill designed to quietly inflate investor tax bills — and it's a rort. The bill which passed the lower house yesterday, introduces a mandatory "loss-ordering" mechanism for the first time in Australian tax history. Instead of cherry-picking how losses offset gains, investors will now be forced to burn through their oldest gains first — stripping away the 50% CGT discount and leaving newer gains fully exposed to the punishing new cost-base indexation regime from July 1, 2027.
Say you bought shares in 2018 and again in 2024. You sell both at a gain, but you also have losses to offset. Previously, you'd apply those losses to your 2018 gains first — which already qualify for the 50% CGT discount, meaning less of them are taxable anyway. Under the new rules, you're forced to do exactly that — exhausting the discounted gains first and leaving your 2024 gains fully exposed to the new, harsher indexation rules.
You end up paying more. This isn't an oversight. It's a deliberate revenue grab buried in fine print
I emailed the Queensland Greens today to resign from the party I founded. I’m very sad about this as the Greens was a major part of my life’s work. However, their support for gender extremism, their rejection of freedom of speech and their refusal to see the world in any other terms than the narrow class bubble they are in meant I had little choice.
I shall be looking to support progressive community independents who are good on the environment and are committed to changing the Sex Discrimination Act and banning puberty blockers.
More on this soon.
This week Treasury confirmed that no one in charge is serious about growing the economy. It's now just bleeding enterprise to feed a parasitical public sector while tossing a few crumbs to buy voters along the way. More below:

Today, I was given a permanent ban of posting on my Facebook page, @Meta. The page can exist - apparently - but I am not allowed to post on it anymore. The page has been deemed controversial due to the Giggle v Tickle case and increased popularity of 25,000 new followers in a week. I don't want to labor the irony of being banned on a social networking platform while fighting in court for the right to ban men from a woman only social networking platform, it is what it is. Frankly, I'd love to have the same right that you do, @Meta.
Women are routinely punished for not accepting men as women. It doesn't turn those men into women. Nothing will.
@_HelenDale One of my former colleagues grew weary of an insufferable co-worker with this habit. So he got his own bookshelf which he filled with his childhood Dr Seuss books.
“Australia has witnessed an increasing number of complaints, tribunal proceedings, workplace disputes, regulatory actions, and court cases involving conflict between gender ideology and gender-critical beliefs.
“This is not simply a debate about personal identity. Increasingly, it has become a conflict over how society defines sex, protects vulnerable groups, balances competing rights, and determines which beliefs may be expressed in public life.” @WomeSpeakTas
