Heads up travelers! The Big Sur Marathon returns to Hwy 1 this Sunday, with thousands of runners in the race. The course along Hwy 1 will be closed to drivers this Sunday, from the start at Big Sur Station to the finish at Rio Rd. in Carmel, from 4 am to 1 pm. Happy running! 🏃‍♂️🌄

Traffic Alert Monterey County: Both north and southbound lanes of US 101 south of Salinas are closed due to downed power lines. Northbound traffic is being taken off at Spence Rd. and southbound traffic is being taken off at Abbott St. There is no estimated time for reopening.

UPDATE: Much of Hwy. 1 on the Big Sur coast has reopened after crews cleared debris from the roadway. A 6.8-mile segment of Hwy. 1 remains closed from 1 mile south of the Esalen Institute to 2 miles north of Lucia. Crews continue to clear mud from the roadway at Regent’s Slide.

Highway 1 on the Big Sur coast is currently closed from Ragged Point Inn in San Luis Obispo County to 1 mile south of Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn in Monterey County. Crews are responding to overnight rock slides at multiple locations. No current estimate for reopening. @CaltransHQ

Travelers will encounter a full closure of McGregor Dr. between Park Ave. and State Park Dr. on Wednesday, Feb. 18 and Thursday, Feb. 19 from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for overhead construction operations. Detour set on Hwy. 1 between the Park Ave. and State Park Dr. interchanges.

Hwy. 1 reopened to through travel on Jan. 14, 2026, three years to the day since Paul’s Slide first closed the road. Repairs at Regent’s Slide, which left a stable slope above the roadway, were accomplished without worker injuries – significant given challenging site conditions.

Protecting rural voices in California. 🚨🌱

California Farm Bureau has announced its opposition to Proposition 50, a November ballot measure that would eliminate independent redistricting and hand map-drawing power back to politicians.

Farm Bureau leaders warn that Prop 50 would eliminate two rural districts, divide farmland, weaken rural representation and diminish the voices of farmers and ranchers by moving districts to urban centers.
