MOBBED: On October 7, 2026, the third anniversary of the Hamas attacks, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani attended a candlelight vigil in Union Square organized by Israelis for Peace.

The group, co-founded by people including Tamar Glezerman (who lost an aunt in the attacks), framed the event as mourning both the roughly 1,200 Israelis killed and 251 taken hostage on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent war in Gaza, which organizers described as a “genocide.”

Hundreds of protesters, including chapters of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA), and groups linked to Within Our Lifetime, marched from a City Hall demonstration and disrupted the vigil.

News reports describe them outnumbering the roughly 50 vigil participants, waving Palestinian flags, and chanting “Traitor,” “Zohran, you can’t hide! We charge you with genocide,” “Globalize the intifada,” and “Shame on you.”
