Imagine getting passed around by a bunch of older, taller women, using you like a fleshlight and then having friends send each other pics of you. "it couldn't even take the whole thing lol" "didn't realize it could drool that much" "it makes the cutest sounds"
Let’s talk about Velanna.
In Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening, she’s introduced as a Dalish mage who attacks humans on sight because she believes they slaughtered her clan and kidnapped her sister. And the game doesn’t soften it—she’s hostile, volatile, and angry, with a very real, very justified hatred rooted in what elves have gone through in Thedas.
She’s not “nice.” She’s not agreeable. She’s confrontational, dismissive, and will challenge you constantly. And that’s the point.
Over time, you learn the truth: she was wrong. It was the darkspawn, specifically the Architect’s forces, who killed her people and took her sister. Everything she did was based on grief, bias, and a terrible assumption that led her to kill innocent people.
And that’s what makes her arc work. She has to live with that. There’s no clean redemption, no easy fix. She just redirects—joins the Grey Wardens because it’s the only way she can track the darkspawn and have any hope of finding her sister.
And even then, she doesn’t suddenly become soft or forgiving. She just becomes more aware. More controlled. Still sharp, still proud, still very much Dalish.
She’s also one of the few companions who gives you insight into Dalish culture without filtering it to make it palatable. No romanticized version of elves—just their anger, their pride, their isolation, and their history.
And what did BioWare do with her?
Absolutely nothing.
A Dalish mage tied directly to the Architect plotline, with a personal stake in one of the most unique threats in the setting… and she just disappears after Awakening.
No follow-up. No continuation. No payoff.
Just another complex, morally messy character with real potential, completely abandoned.
