Manifesto of Mount Lebanon Nexus

Who We Are
We hereby announce the establishment of the Mount Lebanon Nexus, an intellectual and political movement bringing together activists, academics, researchers, legal professionals, and public thinkers from Mount Lebanon and the global diaspora.

Our mission is to advocate for the right of the Druze people, as one of the indigenous peoples of Mount Lebanon, to exercise their right to self determination in their historical homeland. We also seek to strengthen the historic partnership with the Christian people of Mount Lebanon, who share the same indigenous roots and the same right to determine their collective future.

This movement arises after more than a century since the creation of the modern Lebanese state. We believe that the political formula upon which Lebanon was founded has failed to establish a stable, just, and functional system of governance. Instead, it has produced recurring crises, deepened internal divisions, weakened state institutions, and denied the historical communities of Mount Lebanon the ability to preserve their political and cultural identity.

For the Druze community in particular, these failures have gone beyond political marginalization. They have contributed to the gradual erosion of a distinct historical identity, leaving many Druze disconnected from the mountains that have been their ancestral homeland for centuries.

Our Vision
The Mount Lebanon Nexus believes that self determination is an inherent and universally recognized right of indigenous peoples.

We affirm that the Druze and Christian peoples, who together formed the historical foundation of Mount Lebanon, possess the legitimate right to determine their own political future through their free will, without external domination or coercion.

We envision any future arrangement for Mount Lebanon as one founded upon genuine partnership between these two peoples, respect for the rule of law, human rights, civil liberties, democratic pluralism, and peaceful coexistence.
At the same time, we respect all the communities that make up present day Lebanon and believe that dialogue, mutual respect, and democratic principles remain the only legitimate framework through which peoples may exercise their right to self determination and build a more stable and just future.

Our Principles
The Mount Lebanon Nexus is committed to preserving the authentic Druze identity as a distinct historical identity with its own religious, cultural, and social characteristics.

We recognize the deep historical roots of the Druze people in Mount Lebanon and their cultural continuity with the civilizations that shaped the Eastern Mediterranean throughout history. The Druze intellectual and spiritual tradition reflects centuries of interaction with diverse philosophical and cultural currents while maintaining its own unique monotheistic worldview.

We further affirm that the Druze people, as one of the indigenous peoples of Mount Lebanon, possess the right to self determination in accordance with the general principles of international law governing that right. This principle fully recognizes the equal and corresponding right of the Christian people of Mount Lebanon to determine their own future as equal and historic partners.

We believe that the future of Mount Lebanon should be determined exclusively by the free will of its indigenous peoples, foremost among them the Druze and Christians, through peaceful and democratic means that safeguard their identity, rights, and historical presence.

The Role of the Diaspora
The Mount Lebanon Nexus recognizes the vital role of the global Druze diaspora in restoring the historical identity of the Druze people and advancing the cause of self determination in Mount Lebanon.
We seek to organize diaspora communities, strengthen their civic engagement, raise international awareness of our cause, build constructive relationships with institutions and decision makers, and encourage advocacy that supports the legitimate rights of their people.
We also work to present the Druze as an indigenous people of the Eastern Mediterranean with a rich civilizational heritage that values peace, coexistence, freedom, and respectful relations with all neighboring peoples based on mutual respect and shared interests.

Our Approach
The Mount Lebanon Nexus is committed exclusively to peaceful and democratic action.
We reject violence as a means of political struggle and believe that dialogue, intellectual engagement, civil society activism, legal advocacy, and democratic participation are the only legitimate paths toward meaningful political change, in harmony with the ethical and spiritual values we uphold.

Our Purpose
The purpose of the Mount Lebanon Nexus is to revive the historical identity of the Druze people, affirm their right to self determination in their ancestral homeland of Mount Lebanon, and strengthen the historic partnership with the Christian people in defending this shared principle.
Our goal is to preserve the historical continuity, dignity, freedom, and rights of the indigenous peoples of Mount Lebanon.

The Mount Lebanon Nexus is not directed against any people or community, nor does it advocate a predetermined political outcome. Rather, it defends the universal principle of self determination as a fundamental right of peoples.

We believe that the future of Mount Lebanon should be decided by its own people through peaceful, democratic means, in a manner that upholds freedom, human dignity, the rule of law, and respect for human rights.

Massacre. Ethnic cleansing.
This is what happened to the Druze in Swaida.

Within just two days, thousands were killed and injured. Hundreds of thousands were displaced. Women were abducted. Physical and sexual assaults were documented. Entire homes were burned while residents trapped inside, villages were burned and looted. Arrests and enforced disappearances followed. Infrastructure was deliberately destroyed -water, electricity, and public facilities. Places of worship were targeted. This unfolded within a climate of incitement that preceded and accompanied the violence, carrying a clear intent of erasure.

This was not random violence. It was systematic.
It constitutes ethnic cleansing in every sense of the term.

After what happened to us, this is the minimum.

#Right_to_Self_Determination is not a slogan. It is a response to reality. The independence of Swaida is being raised as a political path to secure safety and dignity after a reality that has failed to protect either.

Those who fail to grasp the gravity of what happened must reconsider the facts, not the terminology. What occurred has changed everything. There is no return to what was before.

What comes after ethnic cleansing is never the same as what came before.

واستقلال السويداء يُطرح كخيار سياسي مشروع، هدفه ضمان الأمان والكرامة بعد واقع أثبت عجزه عن حمايتهما.

من لم يدرك بعد خطورة ما حدث، عليه أن يعيد النظر في الوقائع، لا في تسمياتها.
لأن ما جرى غير كل شيء، ولا يمكن العودة إلى ما قبله.

Dr. Jens Kreinath, Professor of Cultural and Social Anthropology at Wichita State University, participated in a session held inside the United States Congress, where he addressed ethnic crimes and grave violations documented in Swaida and against other minority communities in Syria since 2025.

During his intervention, he presented documented cases of systematic killings, identity-based violence, and abuses targeting religious and ethnic minorities, emphasizing the importance of international accountability, the protection of civilians, and the prevention of impunity.

This participation comes within ongoing efforts to bring the voices of victims to decision-makers and to advance justice and recognition for the violations suffered by affected communities.
