Apple’s new watches are coming with a new feature that turns them into mass surveillance devices
This new feature will can provide you with AI summaries of every conversation you've had in the day
The watch’s mic listens for speech, it decides whether a conversation is happening, then audio gets deciphered, then Apple Intelligence model produces a title + summary + key points in the conversation
The issue here is people you are taking with might be wearing this watch and you’ll never know it’s recording everything you say
Apple says the recordings aren’t stored and the speech it’s capturing won’t be accessible to anyone, including Apple. But who really believes this can’t be exploited…..
This turns Apple Watches into recording devices you’ll never even know are recording
This new feature will be on Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4

Park City Police K-9 Bruno is back home after a frightening fall left him seriously injured earlier this week
The injuries were severe. Bruno suffered two broken legs and a fractured jaw and had to be rushed to a Salt Lake City emergency veterinary hospital after assisting officers investigating what appeared to be suspicious material
The surgery went well and Bruno was strong enough to walk out of the hospital with casts on his front legs with his handler
The suspicious material that triggered the investigation turned out not to be an explosive threat
The department thanked the officers, first responders, veterinary staff and community members who rallied around him

Well, the doctor comes around with a face so bright
And he says "In a little while, you'll be all right"
All he gives is a humbug pill
A dose of dope and a great big bill
Tell me, how can a poor man stand such times and live?

“Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.”
- Frank Herbert, Dune, 1965.
Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel Dune presents a remarkably relevant warning about the political risks of automation. Rather than portraying intelligent machines rebelling against humanity, Herbert explores the dangers of technology controlled by humans. His work suggests that when people sacrifice independent thought and memory for technological convenience, they risk concentrating power among those who control the systems.
This idea forms a central part of the Dune universe, where a historical uprising known as the Butlerian Jihad led to the prohibition of thinking machines. Humanity subsequently developed its own intellectual abilities, producing highly trained individuals known as Mentats who could perform extraordinary calculations. Today, this theme resonates with debates surrounding artificial intelligence, raising questions not simply about machines becoming dangerous, but about how powerful individuals and institutions might use automated systems to control, manipulate, and exploit society.
