Gym update: some days the energy is there, some days you have to negotiate with yourself just to get through the door. The important thing is learning how to keep showing up.
The Loneliness of Understanding
There comes a time
when you begin to understand people
a little more than you wish you could.
You see the fear behind their anger,
the insecurity beneath their pride,
the loneliness hiding inside
their desperate need to be admired.
And suddenly, hatred becomes complicated.
You begin to understand
without necessarily accepting,
to forgive without returning,
to love without abandoning yourself.
Perhaps wisdom is not knowing everything.
Perhaps it is realizing
that understanding someone
does not mean you must
make room for them in your life.
9 years old me used to think when i skipped church, I’ll go to hell. Now I’m in church as an adult but I’m more worried about the service on my phone 💔
Sometimes, the relationship isn't toxic because two people hate each other. It's toxic because neither person knows how to love without trying to control the other
Girlfriend: “I need you to know something before we get married.”
Me: “What is it?”
Girlfriend: “I don’t want kids. Not now, not in the future.”
I stared at her.
Me: “You’re serious?”
Girlfriend: “Completely. I love you, but I don’t want to become a mother just because you expect me to.”
I’d always imagined having children. She knew that.
Me: “Why are you telling me this now, after three years?”
She looked away.
Girlfriend: “Because every time you talk about our future, you talk about the house, the wedding, and the children. You never ask if that’s the life I want.”
I didn’t know what to say.
Then she reached for my hand.
Girlfriend: “There’s another reason I kept quiet. And if I tell you, you might look at me differently.”
I’m not jealous of people who have more than me. I just hope I don’t spend the rest of my life watching other people live the kind of life I’ve been working so hard to create for myself
We had this manager who looked like she had a beast for a husband and used us staff to transfer her anger. We agreed to speak up at Friday’s meeting since we weren’t kids. Everybody told me their grievances, so I spoke for all of us. The MD got mad, and suddenly, my coworkers denied ever discussing anything with me. By Monday, I lost my job. Trust people at your own peril.
