My DISCLOSURE DAY hot take: I think Spielberg directs his stuff with a certain emotional vulnerability that is uncomfortable for certain audiences, which is why people got so riled up over this and wigged out over FABELMANS a few years ago. Nothing here is worth that! Good solid alien movie! It rocks!
SHAMONE!!!
After beating #QUEEN on THU, KING OF POP #MichaelJackson’s music biopic #MICHAEL, powered by #Japan & #Russia, goes after #Oppenheimer, moonwalking to become ONLY biopic to hit 1B at Global #BoxOffice!
STRONG 17.1M overseas on 8th weekend, just a -10.5% drop thanks to #Japan’s debut (vs #BohemianRhapsody’s 17M, -15%, #Oppenheimer’s 19.5M, -60.8%), for a 569.4M intl. cume over 85 markets.
Allied to its 362.8M cume in the U.S., the biopic with a 200M production price tag not including marketing hits a 932.2M global cume (vs #BohemianRhapsody’s 702M, #Oppenheimer’s 891M at same point)
1B+ locked!🔒thanks to #Russia & #Japan .
Eyeing a 1B-1.05B run.
Disclosure Day - I’m going to have to sit on this one for a bit, but I will say that Emily Blunt gives a fantastic performance maybe even a career best worthy one. The second half of the film is incredibly strong and ends quite beautifully, has that cinema magic.
Jimmy Butler went on national television and said KAT/Wiggins did not have the effort or passion to try and win. Now both are NBA champions before Butler.
its not perfect but i was elated through the entirety of Disclosure Day and the very last line is fucking incredible
like i totally get it if this didn’t really do it for you but a lot of the discourse surrounding this is honestly shocking, i truly don’t understand where the absolute disdain stems from
DISCLOSURE DAY is a plea for empathy, yes, but it's also longing for a world where humanity can share in a collective awe in a way it seems we can't anymore. And nobody is better suited than imagining that than Spielberg.
EXTRATERRESTRIAL UPDATE:
DISCLOSURE DAY overperformed even harder than we expected overseas and is now on track for a $90M-$100M opening weekend worldwide!
Global bow by Friday is already at nearly $40M!
Spielberg IS BACK!
Say what you want about Roepp’s script, but Spielberg can still direct the hell out of a movie. The depth of field in his imagery, the superb use of tracking shots in action moments, how well-blocked each scene is - like a tightly choreographed dance. It needs to be appreciated.
Kind of telling that many negative reviews of Spielberg's work are "Our greatest living artist processes trauma by finding optimism and hope. If only he had given into pessimism and doom, like me."
