Why not use #SphagnumMonday to learn how to identify sphagnum moss species - there just 34 in the UK but it can be quite a challenge! Why not start with a beginners @FieldStudiesC guide: https://t.co/BYy781QU3O or try https://t.co/3RLQxcuoWk #PeatlandMatters#Biodiversity2020

Adders do not need to eat every day. After a meal of a fully grown common lizard, an adder may not need to eat for a week. [Photo credit: Oskich, https://t.co/OSrkOAMKq5] #FactFriday
Back in October, we spotted this mountain hare up on Bleaklow whilst measuring the moorland water table, have you seen any mountain hares in their white winter coats?
Some of the species that have been spotted so far in the Peak District include the common pipistrelle, nathusius' pipistrelle, soprano pipistrelle, brown long-eared bat (as pictured below!), noctule and myotis species.
Blanket bogs are wetlands that cloak the tops of the moors. The blanket bogs of the Peak District and South Pennines are home to a wonderful array of wildlife, such as mountain hare, curlew, golden plover and bilberry bumblebee #WorldHabitatDay

@moorsforfuture Took a while to find. This is Black Hill, Sept 2000. In the background are the paving slabs which had just been airlifted in awaiting installation. Pic taken in the shallowest bit of mud we could find! @peakdistrict@MoorCitizens difference is staggering, esp lack of bare peat
@BigNick93904986 @moorsforfuture @peakdistrict That is amazing to see! Thanks for taking the time to find and share that photo - such a striking contrast without the footpath too.
The rowan is particularly striking at the moment with its bounty of bright red berries - it is one of the key indicators of the changing season. Captivated by the bright-berried tree? Record your observations using our Buds, Berries and leaves survey https://t.co/TCMhsdZTod
We had a good turn out for our @BumblebeeTrust#BeeWalk#survey yesterday at @PeakDistrictNT Longshaw and @EasternMoors Hathersage Moor.
Still windy on the tops but we recorded a some bees in the heather and practiced ID skills with our new volunteers.
Thank you for joining us!
With the heather in bloom across the moors, it seems a pretty perfect time to celebrate #WorldPhotographyDay. Share your photos in the comments if you've captured the purple moors... or the critters enjoying them!
We are launching 5 new peat pilots to help revive and restore England's #peatland bogs in Northumberland, Greater Manchester, North York Moors, East Anglia and Dartmoor.
This work could reduce the UK's #carbon emissions and help tackle #ClimateChange.
