4 May, 1775 George Washington left his home and plantation Mount Vernon for the 2nd Continental Congress. That Congress would appoint him commander of the Continental Army on June 14, 1775. He would not return to his beloved Mount Vernon until 6 years later. #RevWar #History

#THISDAYINAAHISTORY Dec 26, 1917 Brigadier General William P. Burnham assumed command of the DIV in an a ceremony on Camp Gordon, Georgia. Burnham was the third “AA 6” in our history. Burnham did not actually replace anyone as the previous CDR had been moved prior.

Around dawn on 26 Dec 1776, Gen Washington's army finished its night march and deployed in divisions around Trenton. Despite all the setbacks they managed to surprise the Hessian garrison. In a short fight they killed and wounded over 100 and captured 900. #RevWar victory

On the #DayAfterChristmas, 1944, #USArmy Lt. Col. Keith L. Ware deliberately drew fire upon himself causing the enemy to disclose their positions.

He was wounded but refused medical attention until the enemy was cleared and his Soldiers safe.

This earned him the #MedalofHonor.
