Successful is a very loose term btw, they don’t need to be world superstars. But at least known. I imagine there’s some good US/UK horses that’s gone onto good things
That’s given me an idea actually; I’m gonna make a thread tonight of successful racehorses that have gone onto a second career (that isn’t breeding). I largely just know of aussie (and therefore also HK) horses, let me know if you guys know of some from other countries
I know KYR is to retire at Lindsay Park once his time is up, but I do wonder if they’ll ever do any riding with him in retirement. Very athletic horse.
@cocoarini Flat in hand shows seem to be most popular for the retired big guns but ultimately it depends what Lindsay Park think is best for him, even if that means doing nothing 🤣
Michael Marais of Oz Bloodstock, who bought Ka Ying Rising and works with trainer David Hayes, told the Racing Post

"There will be an attempt to win three Everests and he wouldn't get the break he has every May and June if he came over to Ascot. David wanted to put it to bed. He told me to try to get it nipped in the bud.
"The Ka Ying Syndicate had a meeting and they weighed up the prize-money, the £10 million cheque he gets in the Everest against what he would get by winning the feature 1,200m race at Ascot and they made a decision it will not be happening."

those that have stayed around and progressed onto the horses/horse racing itself are rapidly learning and finding their own niches in the horse world. Which isn’t something that will just fade into nonexistence with time.
