We can not stop our students from becoming their full selves. We need to allow them to dream and think about all that they want to become. As teachers we have to create a space to allow that. Hip-Hop ed is 1 way #BlackGazePodcast
I love how Dr. Emdin is mentioning how using Hip-Hop ed in the classroom is a way of helping students be their authentic selves. Our students need to express themselves!! #BlackGazePodcast
Students can meet benchmarks & goals of school thro different ways by allowing them to be free in expressing themselves is so powerful! No need to dominate the learning community. Thx Dr. Emdin for that breakthro! #BlackGazePodcast
Third, I would enter my classroom with an open mind and know that every child comes from a different background. I'm hoping that if I am as welcoming & accepting as possible then any bias would start to disappear.
A4. First I would love if someone called me out on any and all bias I put out into the classroom. If I'm putting it out there then I need to know so I can work to fix it #TCHEdbirds
Second, I would continue to educate myself on topics I may not know a ton about. Being more aware of topics can help me not put out dated info into my classroom
A3. I feel if teachers have a bias or stereotype that a specific student won't be successful or is not smart than that student won't be successful. #TCHEdbirds
I just read an article for another class that talks about how we have to teach unconditionally. If we don't then students could act out or think they are not worthy of our love
One specific memory is I was putting oil into my car at a gas station and an older man came over to help me. He ended up mansplaining everything to me, even though I knew what I was doing
A2. Being a female has caused me to experience bias in lots of ways. Males feel that you can't do anything and that they need to "save" us. hahaha no thank you #TCHEdbirds
