I'm really interested in it becaus3 rather than developing from a location, it was developed for upper classes and film and theater in the early 20th century! Might be an interesting way to apply what we have learned. #eng211fall22

@agcloud18 Slang is very interesting, especially since it changes up so quickly. Slang that we use today could be replaced by a new word in just a few weeks!

@heynicolettee That's a very good point. There have definitely been conflicts that could have been resolved by speaking in person or even on the phone rather than through text. Tone in text can be difficult!

I have definitely been in the southern/Appalachian English sounds like Shakespeare group. However I usually associated it with the subtle changes in dialect rather than vocabulary. Really interesting to see that perspective! #eng211fall22

@Ally000333 Bingo - that was what really encouraged me to reflect on the myth. The literacy rate has increased quite a bit, so compared to the "Golden Age", I think we are doing better now.

@angelapaulinee That's such a good point! Speaking is definitely influenced by environment. Maybe socializing in school can help, but ultimately it comes down to combining what's learned at home and in school.
