We are Morgantown Ramp a grassroots community organization focused on housing issues. Some of our current leaders include @ash_in_wv@Butcher4wv@PastorZac@MarlyDubVee. We will be running a hotel program for our housless neighbors for the second year in a row. 1/2
This is a really weird way to talk about a bill that takes revenue from county schools and local governments AND takes away their ability to enforce their own rules- basically undermining all the local benefit of landing a data center and leaving only the negative externalities.
The House Finance committee just originated a bill that could eliminate the Medicaid expansion and, with it, health coverage for 166,000 West Virginians without a committee hearing, without notice, without any expert testimony.
@stevenadamswv The easiest shit in the world for a safe cis white person to say while marginalized folks have been experiencing shit on FIRE since before you were born.
This is really important. The consolidation story is not *only* about enrollment decline attributable to vouchers but also about the opportunity cost of investing in that vs. prioritizing fixing the school funding formula for schools that serve vast majority of our state's kids.
McGeehan here somewhat incredibly identifies the main critique of capitalism in Brave New World (that humans are only inherently as good as the profit they produce) and misses the point entirely to say "elective suicide bad"
Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World” describes a society that is not too far from where parts of our own nation is headed—one in which everyone is obliged to be “useful”: citizens are forbidden to burden others with their needs. This goal is achieved by mandatory assisted-suicide at the age of 60. There are no unforeseen and expensive medical treatments: everyone is killed before they need them. Sickness, death, and old age are gone—at the cost of human freedom.
Newsom is just one of a huge swath of democrats who would rather be beholden to short sighted policy backed by developers who want "clean streets now" rather than investing in solutions that actually solve the problem ie rent control and social housing.

63 years since the Freedom Riders came to the South, and we’re still arresting folks for peacefully protesting war on college campuses. University Administrators across NC are to blame for the violence against our young people we witnessed this last week across the UNC system.
We have taken in an individual from Ruby Memorial into our hotel program. Our community fund is at zero dollars, and our neighbor has no snap benefits. We would like to secure them some groceries. Please donate if you can.
A special session looms where lawmakers will likely deal with unfinished business – budget-related and otherwise.
House Dems asked the governor to leave failed “culture war” bills off the call — and focus on funding the health dept., child care and more. https://t.co/2ZWfw4yl7J
Volunteers are stretched thin, and we are receiving requests from medicaid providers now, as well as our regular referral sources.

saw the 200 page “compromise”, use compare to see the changes (many unable to see at all bc formatting change), it wasn’t explained to us, and we had to vote on it within 30-45 minutes.
The WV legislative budget process is not transparent or easy to understand. It’s on purpose
