Thinking of the topics deviance and violence, paired with gender; I sometimes wonder why most women’s sports are non-contact & men’s sports are all about contact. Is it considered violent and deviant in women to use their bodies in a game? Why? #KIN1102019
@FaithJasper4 I am actually a fan of Subban & I was never aware that this happened. After reading some of the tweets that were made, I honestly wasn’t surprised. Competitive sports fans can be so careless and thoughtless. Super disappointing to read, but thanks for sharing! #KIN1102019
@kayleebaby12@KIN110UofR I don’t watch women’s hockey other than in the Olympics, that’s the only time I really show any interest in it. I wasn’t aware of this until now.
Sharing this and wondering what thoughts are on the article & any ideas of how they will improve inclusion of African Americans? #kin1102019 Life as a black golfer: 'It can be an intimidating environment' https://t.co/sLaHAxEE5M
I shared this in my lab last week, but I thought I’d share it on here as well since it goes along with our topic being gender! #KIN1102019 https://t.co/cCLlFW7n4p
@PankratzAlyssa@KIN110UofR I agree, I think it is unreasonable to put forth a #sugartax. Refined white sugar is really unhealthy for the body, but there are several other unhealthy products out there. Taxing only one product will honestly not do much, other than anger consumers.
@KIN110UofR Relating to lab4 taking place this week, I noticed when I was looking at pictures of men and women playing sports, there is rarely action shots of women. Pictures of men are almost always action shots, why is there a divide here? #disproportionalcoverage#KIN1102019
@zoha_m_@KIN110UofR I guess I never thought of it that way! I like your opinion on commercialization in sport. I won’t feel as bad anymore getting involved in it!
@KIN110UofR I follow sports in the media and I buy merchandise, so I do support the commercialization of sport. Although, that doesn’t mean I agree with so much commercialization. It makes me feel like sports lose the meaning behind why people play or watch the sport. Agree or disagree?
@PankratzAlyssa@KIN110UofR I agree with specialization being a good thing at a young age! Although, there are some cases it can go wrong. My brother also specialized in hockey at a young age, and he also plays other sports during the off season. A small break is really important to refresh an athlete.
@KIN110UofR I think introducing sport to young kids is a great thing! Sports can be beneficial to a young individual in many ways. They can have a ton of fun and learn a lot of skills. These skills not only being physical, but also learning hard work, leadership and cooperation skills.
@KIN110UofR If I have ever considered leaving a sport the biggest reason would be that I wasn’t enjoying myself anymore. I love competitive sport, working hard & winning, but I still want to be able to have fun. If I begin dreading a sport, it means I don’t feel good doing it anymore.
@KIN110UofR@KIN110UofR Personally I was socialized into sport because of my family and community. My parents enjoyed sports, so they wanted me to as well. Since there isn’t a whole lot to do in my community everyone was encouraged to participate in most sports.
