Cold mailing is often projected as being proactive, and to be fair, it usually works magic.

But I think sometimes we need to know where to draw the line when it comes to following up and reaching out.

I remember a few months ago, I was doing research for different PR companies that could train our senior-level executives. I found a few, narrowed them down, and from their websites, I requested pricing and quotations.

The goal was simple: compile the top five so my director could make a decision based on what they specifically offer, their location, and their pricing.

So I did exactly that and submitted everything.

One particular PR company started following up by email, asking for updates. I remember replying twice, explaining that I had already compiled the list and sent it to my director, who would be making the final decision. I made it clear that the process was no longer in my hands.

A few weeks later, I was still getting follow-up emails asking the same thing, so I stopped responding because I had already answered the question.

Then a few days later, I woke up to a WhatsApp message from the same person.

Somehow, he had found my number.

I was genuinely stunned. It felt very creepy.

For me, this is where I really draw the line.

Being proactive is great. Following up is good. But once someone has clearly told you where things stand, respect that. And please don’t go looking for personal contact details to continue a conversation that has already been answered.

X needs a strike system like YouTube.

Creators should be able to post freely and know when they cross the line.

For the past few months I’ve been extremely quiet on here because I was deep in building something that still sounds almost impossible to most people.

But I finally had a real breakthrough, it’s working now. Not at full potential yet, that’ll take more time, but the doors are unlocked. The hardest part is done.
I know I should’ve shown up here on x for at least 15 minutes a day even while building. I didn’t, and I feel that. I’m still barely active, but I’m trying to change that.
