Remember when disabled people said they were wantonly using restraints on disabled children in institutions and everybody argued it was necessary because they’re “dangerous” kids despite the kids we were talking about having died because of those very restraints…?
You all know that they’re using disability to strip you of your rights because you regularly agree that this is how disabled people should be treated, right?
It’s the perfect Trojan horse because you already share these ideas you just didn’t think it applied to you.
It’s just so fucking outrageous to be concern trolled by snake oil-selling fascists at the highest levels of government.
Because the truth we NEED national conversations to raise awareness.
Instead we get this, which literally lowers awareness.
I could tell you a hundred stories that would shatter your heart about autistic people and love/relationships. The heartbreak my people are carrying, honestly you don’t understand.
Of course we die young.
My people are as a rule shattered. Most autistic people I know and am in community with are dealing with the fallout of a lifetime of masking, are living with CPTSD that to this day explodes and ruins relationships, are struggling to work and take care of themselves.
Here’s a true fact: a study of autistic adults diagnosed in their 50s found that each of them had at some point simply come to the conclusion that they were a bad person.
Can you imagine? Do you know what this world does to us?
But sure, let’s talk about Tylenol.
Worth noting that autistic life expectancy is drastically lower than allistic, because a lifetime of chronic stress is literally fatal.
Like I don’t even want to publish the numbers it’s too bleak.
Topic too triggering. I need to back away.
To all the autistics
Those with developmental disabilities
I am sorry that the world treats you as though you are someone that needs medical correction or total elimination instead of someone who deserves human rights and dignity.
You cannot prevent disability. I want people to understand that.
Even if you eat healthy, exercise, and have access to healthcare. Disability can and will happen.
Advocate for free healthcare. Advocate for better resources. Advocate for accessibility. Advocate for inclusion.
Fun child psychiatry fact!
If we analyze a group of 40-year-old adults with the same diagnostic criteria & screening as we use currently on children, we get virtually identical rates of autism.
"Exploding rates of autism" likely a reflection of our exploding understanding.
You all are pissed because you’re just now figuring out that the Trump Admin intends to treat you like you’re disabled, but never to actually understand, politically, what that fucking looks like.
Oh well.
5 different models show the incidence of #LongCovid has not decreased over time, and remains high.
(Purple & yellow lines are adult incidence in cohorts of 3.8 & 1.9 million people, using either NASEM or non-NASEM definitions. Green line is children).

This is absolutely true - and another reason why I thoroughly loathe Center-Whites and Centrist Non-Whites.
They are as bad as White Conservatives - actually worse - when it comes to COVID denialism and eugenicist thinking.
For autism to run in families, it means that autistic people are having sex. Lots of people get freaked out by the idea of disabled people having sex (hence why many disabled students receive no sex education in schools).
Am I wrong, or is the idea that autism is genetic distasteful to a lot of people?
It seems that most of the data we have is "this runs in families" and for some reason we keep cycling through this "that's impossible, it has to be the direct fault of the mother of the child and
Autism being 'linked' to older pregnancies, autism being 'linked' to taking tylenol whilst pregnant (literally the main painkiller you can take whilst pregnant) - when will people wake up and see the connection between eugenics and attacks on reproductive rights?
Why do abled people get so angry at the notion that not all disabled people want a cure.
I wonder if it's because society sees disability as deviant so anyone saying it's okay goes against these social norms.
