PRESS RELEASE : Suicide of IIT Bombay Student Extremely Unfortunate; Conduct a Thorough SIT Probe and Take Strict Action Against the Guilty — ABVP

The incident of an IIT Bombay student's suicide is deeply unfortunate and heart-wrenching. This event has sparked grave concern within the student community, highlighting the urgent need for educational institutions to look at student safety alongside their mental well-being with greater sensitivity.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has demanded a deep, impartial, transparent, and independent SIT (Special Investigation Team) inquiry into the entire incident. If any form of pressure, harassment, negligence, or other contributing factors are revealed during this investigation, accountability must be fixed and strict action must be taken against those responsible as per the law.

Expressing deep concern over the incident, ABVP Mumbai Secretary Abhishek Pawar stated:

> *"A student's life and mental well-being are paramount. Such incidents must not be viewed merely as isolated occurrences; all underlying factors and possible causes need to be thoroughly investigated. An independent SIT probe must be conducted to bring the truth to light. Creating a safe, sensitive, and trusting environment for students is the responsibility of the administration."*

ABVP has also demanded that the IIT Bombay administration strengthen its existing counseling and mental health support facilities, making them more easily accessible and effective. It is critical to implement concrete, institution-level measures so that students feel comfortable expressing their difficulties and receive timely, appropriate help.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad stands firmly alongside students and their interests. Whenever issues concerning student safety, dignity, mental well-being, or rights arise, ABVP will continue to strongly amplify students' voices before the administration.

ABVP expresses its deepest condolences on this tragic event and appeals to all students not to feel isolated during difficult times, but to reach out and talk to friends, teachers, family members, counselors, or trusted individuals.
