The #MorpethBay could allow for many more #LocalTrains serving SE #Northumberland and link the #ECML to the #NorthumberlandLine while remaining independent of the ECML would allow higher frequencies to #Bedlington, #Bebside, #Newsham, #SeatonDelaval - maybe to #NewcastleAirport..

Network Rail expects to reopen the lines from Newcastle and Skipton into Carlisle from Wednesday December 7. A derailment closed the line on October 19. NR had to repair its bridge over the River Petteril with 125 tonnes of concrete after recovering the derailed freight wagons.

This is another reason the #MorpethDiversion makes sense; the branch to #Bedlington from #Morpeth on the #ECML cannot realistically be transformed into a #FlyingJunction, but by bypassing #Morpeth (& perhaps #Pegswood too) you'd reduce through traffic-making it less of an issue.
