Just launched a free, open-source library for @GameMakerEngine! It's a live-updating particle effects library based on @jujuadams Vinyl! Check it out at the link below. More info about how I did this in the thread! 1/3

If you want more details on how to make your own library like this, check out this Reddit post I wrote explaining in more detail how to modify Vinyl for your own library: 3/3

To make this library, I basically just modified Vinyl's 'JSON' parser a bit so it can handle reading hex codes and particle constants. Then I built a 'fluent interface' wrapper around GM's particle backend and presto! You got a simpler particle API! 2/3
@STANN_co@GMspotlight I started using BBMOD which, so far, has been a great 3D library for GameMaker and definitely simplifies a looooot of things (though it's still not as easy as other 3D engines 😅)
Hey #GameMaker devs! Do you love putting off documentation so you can avoid typing out JSDoc over and over? Me neither! So I made a free tool to help. It's called Noted GML and it will automatically generate JSDoc for your GM functions. Check it out! https://t.co/hir1zH93BU✍️
@DvaWorkshop Orrrr (last suggestion I promise lol) since the player is a robot (right?), it could also be a pile of factory junk. Like gears, springs, tires, etc. And for that you could use similar techniques as the sand I mentioned before. This is the best reference I could find...
@DvaWorkshop If you don't care for it staying as "ground" you could take it in more of a "spacey" direction which the dream blocks in celeste and death fog in divinity 2 are a good reference for. You just need to sample a "space" texture depending on the camera position and add color FX
@DvaWorkshop It depends on how much you want to stick to the idea of the ground being "ground". If you want to stick with that you could always use the sand in ori 2 as a reference. It looks like they sampled a sand texture and added a color gradient near the edges?

I'm making an immersive sim with #GameMaker! You have a set of spells that can interact in a number of ways such as: turning water into steam, creating traps and potions, turning people into chickens, oh...and you can make things explode...
