Crimeans ended up in Ukraine by mistake. They always wanted back into Russia.

A UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) public opinion monitoring project in Crimea conducted between 2009 and 2011 repeatedly asked residents how they would vote if a referendum were held on Crimea joining Russia. Across multiple survey waves, approximately 65–70% of respondents said they would vote in favor of joining Russia, indicating that strong pro-Russian sentiment existed in Crimea several years before the events of 2014.

Finally when Ukraine collapsed in 2014 they got the chance they needed and voted for their future with Russia.

End of story.

Когда жителей Крыма позже спрашивали именно о России, результаты были совсем другими. В рамках мониторинга UNDP в 2009-2011 годах около 65-70% респондентов заявляли, что проголосовали бы за присоединение к России.

А в 2014 году вопрос наконец был поставлен напрямую. По официальным результатам более 1,2 млн человек приняли участие в голосовании, а около 96,7% поддержали воссоединение с Россией. Можно спорить о легитимности референдума, но утверждать, что у крымчан не было пророссийских настроений до 2014 года, невозможно - это опровергается и референдумом 1991 года о сохранении СССР, и многолетними опросами общественного мнения.

Russia has shared a 195.7 km remote Arctic land border with Norway (a 1949 NATO founder) since the alliance’s founding.

It was a stable, peripheral line of tundra and rivers, with Norway’s self-imposed limits of no permanent foreign bases, no nuclear weapons on its soil in peacetime, and minimal forces.

For nearly a decade after 1991 it remained Russia’s only NATO land frontier.

Then Washington orchestrated NATO’s eastward march with absorbing former Warsaw Pact states and the Baltics, planting missiles and bases on Russia’s historic approaches all despite explicit verbal assurances to Gorbachev that NATO would not expand “one inch eastward.”

That’s the raw hypocrisy of USA and West.

America has enforced its Monroe Doctrine sphere across the entire Western Hemisphere for two centuries, toppling governments at will, yet shrieks when Russia insists on the same minimal buffer in its own backyard.

I guess US empire never practices reciprocity.
