YAMUA THABONG: BUILDING THE FUTURE FROM THE GROUND UP ✊🏿⚽

Sometimes building a movement is not about meetings, workshops or speeches.

Sometimes it is simply about creating a space where young people can play, belong and imagine something different.

On 29 August, the YAMUA Thabong Branch Executive Committee brought young people together for a community sports tournament, games and fun.

But behind the fun was a serious purpose: keeping young people positively engaged, strengthening teamwork and giving children an alternative to the drugs, crime and street life that too often fill the spaces left by unemployment, poverty and neglect.

This is what grassroots organising can look like. It starts long before someone becomes an activist. It starts by building relationships, creating community and showing young people that they matter.

YAMUA exists because young people in mining-affected communities should not simply inherit the inequalities and environmental destruction of previous generations.

They must have the organisation, confidence and collective power to shape a different future. ✊🏿🔥
