This man showed every comedy writer and producer alive today
exactly how it's done. He inspired all of us to elevate the genre to something beyond just the laughs. He leaves behind a staggering entertainment legacy, with the crown jewel standing as perhaps the greatest sitcom ever, "All in the Family", a modern-day viewing of which is enough to humble any of us writing for TV. Even more impressively, he flew 52 combat missions with the Air Force in WWIl, and was decorated for his service. How many of us in the industry can say we fought the Nazis, AND made some of the best TV of all time? I once asked him to tell me about his experiences in the war, and what it was like to fly consecutive missions with such frequency. He said the worst days were when he didn't really know the rest of the guys in the crew. Only a born comedy writer could risk his life to help smash Hitler's regime and then say the toughest part was the social anxiety. And even though he lived to 101, he never became an old man. He could have stuck around a hundred years more, and never become creatively bored or apathetic, even for an instant. I will miss my friend Norman Lear, but if there was ever a life to be more celebrated than mourned, it's this guy. He did it right.
A fact that goes missed:
In the Palestinian state in Gaza there was no Israeli “occupation” whatsoever.
Not one inch.
Not one Israeli soldier or civilian.
In 2005 Israel officially left the entire Gaza Strip to the very last inch.
We pulled out ALL Israelis and ALL IDF soldiers.
We pulled back to the 1949 borders.
At first, we applied no blockade or siege.
We handed the keys over to the Palestinian authority.
At that point they had an opportunity to turn Gaza into an amazing and beautiful state.
A Singapore with beautiful beaches, hotels, tourism, business and culture.
They chose otherwise.
A majority of Palestinians voted Hamas whose explicit goal is to destroy Israel.
Hamas won both in Gaza and in Judea and Samaria (aka “the West Bank”).
They began shooting rockets from their new state into Israel.
Tens of thousands of rockets killed children and citizens of Israel, ever since.
THEY CHOSE DEATH FOR JEWS OVER LIFE FOR PALESTINIANS.
Their goal has never been to live side-by-side Israel, but to destroy Israel.
For the past 20 years Israelis hoped again and again that our neighbours seek happiness for their families and this will ultimately moderate them.
We Israelis believe in the inherent goodness of humans.
We were wrong.
Dead wrong.
This is the tough reality we’re facing.
This is a battle between an ideology of life and one of death.
We say “le-Haim” - to life.
We say “Shalom” - peace.
They say “itbach el yahud” - slaughter the Jews.
This is our reality of 2023.
Let me be clear: all Israelis, wall-to-wall are now united to bring total defeat to the terrorists agents of death.
Life will prevail over death.
Please don’t try to stop us, because we won’t until we win.
Am Yisrael Chai🇮🇱
The past is past; nothing can change it. But the future depends on the present; we still have the opportunity to shape it. This is not a matter of employing technology or spending more money, it's a question of developing a sense of concern for others' well-being
Today marks a historic day! Having Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson serve as the first Black woman Supreme Court justice will ensure all Americans, no matter their race or background, will be better represented on the highest court. #SCOTUS#RepresentationMatters
@NedThorne@johnzaozirny I’d pitch it as a three-parter, plus three prequels and three sequels. Sounds crazy, but it could have a lot of IP legs. Good luck!
Excited to share that my story, a true story, is on the @Coverfly Red List, and today a quarterfinalist in ScreenCraft’s Cinematic Book Competition. Congrats to all my fellow #writers!
A spirit of goodness and hope. Betty White was much beloved because of who she was, and how she embraced a life well lived. Her smile. Her sense of humor. Her basic decency. Our world would be better if more followed her example. It is diminished with her passing.
Here’s what drives me:
I want to help people.
On childcare. On climate. On education. On health care.
Letting the child tax credit expire doesn’t make sense. Neither does killing President Biden’s agenda.
Let’s help people. Not hurt them. Especially right before Christmas.
Please stop for a moment and watch this, with the sound on. Share with others. An unflinching rebuttal to all those who are politicizing studies of race and injustice courtesy of Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Iconic Test Pilot General Chuck Yeager has slipped the surly bonds of earth. A WWII fighter ace and the first human to break the sound barrier.
He was a true legend with the right stuff. Fair winds and following seas, General Yeager. #RIPChuckYeager
