I would like to call out this new parking payment platform called @AdmytMe who have done absolutely nothing to consider the safety of women in South Africa in their product design process. If you are a woman, please go and check whether your vehicle license plate is registered on their platform. I’ll tell you why:
Your product deeply lacks any consideration for safety protocols or consent from vehicle owners. You are complicit in nonconsensual vehicle sign ups. Predatory men can now easily take a woman’s vehicle license plate number and sign them up on your app because you have zero verification process for vehicle ownership. Said man, knows every time I have entered a parking lot or left and can determine my location pretty easily or monitor my habits. Even as far as recently showing up at my house with your free information.
Human trafficking, Harassment, Stalkerism are but a few of the crimes you enable.
I suggest you hire some Product Leadership who can think through risk aversion with a consciousness of the realities of South Africa, while you’ve just made it simple to open women up to danger in a country that has a proven track record for GBV.
No Test captain in almost 100 years had won nine of their first ten matches, until Temba Bavuma.
He now holds the world record for the best start as skipper, with no defeats so far 💥
City Press reports that Olorato Mongale reported on the Karabo Mokoena story as a journalist and “left journalism to escape the trauma of reporting on gender-based violence, only to tragically become one of its victims.” Endlessly devastating.
Yesterday I read a story of a woman who was stabbed and set on fire by her partner. Today it’s a teenager killed by her stepfather. There’s a story of a violent man everyday.
One of the primary suspects in the Olorato Mongale case has been killed in a shootout with police. Philangenkosi Makhanya was taking refuge in an apartment in Amanzimtoti. He shot at police officers who were attempting to arrest him following heightened efforts to locate him overnight. #eNCA #DStv403 #QuestionThinkAct

These are lyrics of a song from the days of the struggle against colonialism and later apartheid in South Africa. It is a question which the Black majority asked, singing, to both their oppressors and their God. Loosely interpreted, it means: What have we done? It was both a prayer and a plea for an explanation for what was done to them.
[WATCH] Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe updates on Olorato Mongale's murder case. "We can confirm that there is a syndicate that targets women at malls. The perpetrators approach them, request to take them out on dates, and then rob them." #Newzroom405

It tears my heart to say that my father, Ngugi Wa Thiong'o passed away earlier today. I am me because of him in so many ways, as his child, scholar and writer. I love him - I am not sure what tomorrow will bring without him here. I think that is all I have to say for now.
