All these DBD creators are so whiny and negative. Halloween: The Game is literally the second coming of F13. It's janky as shit and that's the best part. Stay mad and keep pretending like Comp DBD is ever gonna be a real thing.
First impressions of Halloween: The Game - NOT GOOD
The game doesn't end when you kill all human players. You still then have to sit through a game against NPCs and finish them all before the game ends which again, is very boring. I had a game where it was just NPCs for 10 minutes straight and I couldn't even find the last one so had to suffer through it.
Being forced to spectate as a civilian feels unintuitive and boring if you just want to move on to the next game after dying - you can come back as a Cop or Loomis but there's not much gameplay involved with coming back. If you leave the match early, all your XP is gone.
Civilian gameplay is incredibly stale, if Myers grabs you and you don't either have a melee weapon or a teammate you're just dead because the wiggle isn't quick enough.
Myers gets DESTROYED when 2 or more players are attacking him, even when they're marked to Tier 3 for stronger attacks
The constant spam of "you're too close OR you're in light OR someone's watching" preventing you from leaving Shape Jump (movement mechanic) is VERY annoying and restrictive when it comes to fluidity and traversal.
To expand on the above point, why do these apply when players are driving in a vehicle? You have very little opportunity to stop them and they get away for free. Even standing in front of a vehicle to stall it doesn't give a harsh enough penalty to be able to stop them.
You start with 3 special abilities on Myers, as to which two feel fairly pointless with the only useful one allowing you to come out of Shape Jump whenever.
The next unlockable special ability unlocks at Level 25, as to which I'm only Level 11 after 3 hours of playing - so you're looking at probably about 8 hours in until you unlock another ability.
The prologue of story mode made me give up on it after two attempts. You get blinded as Myers before prying the gate open and you have to replay a solid 3-4 minutes of the prologue to get back to where you were, zero checkpoints and very annoying to encounter from the "tutorial" of the game.
Overall first impressions are that I'm pretty disappointed with the gameplay loop and just the lack of gameplay involved overall.
With the game being prized at $40 and $60 for the premium version it's very obvious this game is not meant to be a long term live service game and will probably die out slowly after the initial hype
DO NOT expect it to have a tremendous playerbase 1 year after launch
