@nhldrafter If the player is unlikely to burn that ELC year 1, then it could make financial sense to wait a year and collect NIL before signing. But that also carries a risk of delaying the player’s progress towards becoming a full time member on the NHL roster.
@nhldrafter Unsigned drafted players can attend the Team’s rookie minicamp, but are required to pay some to all of their expenses to attend.
The incentive for McKenna and other to sign now is probably more to burn the ELC year 1, reaching his second contract as soon as possible.
@frank_seravalli This video clip would have been more useful if you showed Staal gaining possession and controlling the puck earlier.
The shortened clip only shows us that Staal is already in the zone with no definitive context whether he had control of the puck when he entered.
@Bouchtard@vegaTron1983@frank_seravalli Yes, but claimed players after the deadline are ineligible for the NHL as well as AHL playoffs, so there’s no benefit for making a claim.
@ElonMUSS@ronaldusseryjr@RossDellenger But does the NCAA want to continue burning lawyer fees on what’s likely to become even more eligibility lawsuits in the future?
A more practical solution for the NCAA is to remove itself from case by case eligibility decisions with the proposed eligibility rule change,
@SinBinVegas@jeanneerosee Issue is players on the NHL roster at the deadline can’t later be sent to the AHL. Being Waiver Exempt doesn’t change that.
Players recalled from the AHL after the deadline can be sent back to the AHL, which is why the deadline paper moves like Bowman are done.
@jeanneerosee@SinBinVegas Bowman was papered down to the AHL on deadline day then recalled after the deadline. That makes him eligible for the AHL playoffs.
@PuckPedia@QuartexxHockey Wonder if the NHL would ever do something to remove the phantom Conn Smythe bonus in a future CBA, or change the ELC rules to permit larger year to year AAV scaling,
@KevinLacy22 Rewatching the video, issue with calling no goal Incidental Contact is by the time Barron contacts Silovs the net is empty and the puck inches away from going in.
Can’t rule incidental on Karlsson’s contact with Silovs if Barron didn’t initiate, push, shove, foul Karlsson.
@Leafs121Tim@KevinLacy22 Did Barron Push, Shove or Foul Karlsson?
I don’t see a Push, Shove or Foul by Barron. I’m seeing either incidental contact between Barron and Karlsson while both are attempting to play the puck, or contact initiated by Karlsson on Barron.
@spittinchiclets Proper no call was made. Barron playing the puck/shooting. Karlsson initiates contact with Barron, resulting in Karlsson contacting his goalie. No push, shove or foul by Barron.
Complaints about GI inconsistency usually include a lack of interest in understanding the GI rules.
@reporterchris This one looked like the right no call to me. Barron is playing the puck. Karlsson initiates contact with Barron, which results in Karlsson making contact with his goaltender. Barron didn’t push, shove or foul Karlsson.
@JoshYohe_PGH Doesn’t look like Barron initiated the contact with Karlsson to me. Barron’s playing the puck and Karlsson is initiating the contact in my view.
@PuckPedia@Zackzerz@Stevenbradleyb One interesting side effect of this old rule is that any unsigned drafted players whose rights are traded after the deadline are ineligible for the rest of that NHL season+playoffs.
Which means they cannot sign a ELC burning the current season, can only sign for the next season.
@PuckPedia@Zackzerz@Stevenbradleyb Though even if a terminated player could re-sign as a UFA that player would still only be regular season eligible, not playoff eligible. That playoff eligibility rule is covered in the CBA.
