In 1944, Hiroo Onoda was sent to Lubang Island in the Philippines as a Japanese intelligence officer. His orders were simple: gather information, disrupt enemy operations, and never surrender.

But Onoda was given another instruction that would define the rest of his life.

He was told to continue fighting until he received a direct order from a superior officer to stop.

When Japan surrendered in 1945, Onoda didn't believe it.

Leaflets were dropped over the island announcing that the war was over. Newspapers and photographs were left behind. Search parties were sent to convince the Japanese soldiers hiding in the jungle to come out.....

Wolverine’s first kill has always been one of the saddest parts of his story to me. Thomas Logan wasn’t just some stranger. He was his biological father, and in that moment, James was still just a frightened child who had his whole world ripped apart after the man he truly saw as his father was killed. His powers came out in the middle of that shock, anger, and confusion. What stays with me is that Logan didn’t start out as this violent, angry man. He was a kid who lost everything in one terrible moment, and he carried that pain, guilt, and rage with him for years. That makes his journey feel a lot more tragic to me.
