Very sad news
Jenny was an outspoken advocate of equality & diversity in healthcare. She always stood up for those who were mistreated or discriminated against. She honoured us by presenting in our annual British Egyptian Medical Association meeting last year
RIP a great leader
It is with a heavy heart to share that the amazing inspirational legend @DrJennyVaughan peacefully passed away yesterday, Easter Sunday, surrounded by family. (@matt_theknife)
@TheBMA@DrPhilBanfield@DrLatifaPatel Thank you for your sensible position, supporting preservation of human life & protection healthcare workers and civilians.
@TheBMA@DrPhilBanfield@DrLatifaPatel To those critical of the BMA message, what happened on the 7th of October has already been condemned. Nevertheless the BMA stance is with what is currently happening on a daily basis. With a need of immediate action to prevent further suffering on a massive scale.
RCOA approved conference (5CDP).

In a world exclusive, @QueenRania of Jordan spoke with me about the ongoing bombing of Gaza, civilian deaths, the massacres of October 7, and what she calls “a glaring double standard” in the west’s reaction to all this. Watch our full conversation.
@FullFact@thetimes@TheBMA@NHSBSA@nhs_pensions 8/ and membership (which will look very different for men vs women retirees) so why not just provide the average, or better still the average consultant, and the average for men and women?
Then we will see if those pensioners get £73k or not (or £73k after tax = £115,658!!!)
@FullFact@thetimes@TheBMA 7/ But perhaps the most unsatisfactory answer that @FullFact obtained was from @NHSBSA@nhs_pensions
Why are you "unable to provide an average". You hold the data, so why not provide the average. The whole point is that Mr. Barclays claim did not account for working patterns,
@FullFact@thetimes@TheBMA 6/ In addition figures need to reflect the actual demographics of the workforce, pensions are much lower for women who more often take time out for childcare and less than full time working vs working continuously / full time in the NHS

@FullFact@thetimes@TheBMA 5/ This is because amongst many other factors typical retirement ages are around 60 (and 59 for GPs), so why use a highly misleading figure that does not represent current practice.
https://t.co/efBNbwnZML
@FullFact@thetimes 4/ @TheBMA correctly pointed the £73k figure was
“misleading” to suggest the figure of £73,000 was typical, as “pensions are highly individual and will depend on factors such as retirement age, working patterns etc.”
3/ Responding to the false claim that consultants can expect a pension of £73k @FullFact pointed out the SOS numbers are all over the place
"significantly higher than the “£60,000-plus” pension Mr Barclay quoted in an article for @thetimes on 16 July 2023. He also quoted a slightly higher figure of £78,000 in the @MailOnline
