Taking the kids to see @AEW tonight at the Siegel Center! This will be their first wrestling show, and will also be their first time at the Siegel Center, so they'll get to see my plaque when we walk in!
Something I really like about having an organization (7U-17U) is that I'm essentially a GM+. Building teams, developing talent, monitoring needs, tracking progress over time.
I'm living out the Franchise Mode!
Strike% and Contact% via Gamechanger have been numbers to track
I'd love to see a year by year breakdown of these numbers. Would be interesting to see how much things have changed (or maybe not......but I'd guess they have) 🤷♂️
A lot of younger athletes only want to throw the breaking ball with 2 strikes when they're ahead for fear of walking batters. That's not what we're after. Got to have confidence to throw it in any count and understand it needs to be thrown in-zone as well. It's not just for chase
I don't give signs to my 12U team. Even with a pitching background, I let the pitcher and catcher figure that out. This weekend, I did have a pitcher who I think has a chance to have a good breaking ball, and I did call some for him. Mostly in 0-0, behind in the count, and 3-2.
He shook off the first one, which was completely understandable, given the count. After that, I told him to trust me and throw it if called. It wasn't about trying to win that game. It was about getting him comfortable throwing it in-game in counts that actually matter long-term
