Neuland Labs announced a development partnership with LIR Life Sciences for a transdermal GLP-1 / GIP obesity therapy.
Under the agreement, Neuland will develop, test, and manufacture cell-penetrating peptide (CPP) to support a patch-based transdermal delivery system for GLP-1 therapies targeting obesity, along with Phase I formulations for LIR Life’s transdermal GLP-1/GIP program.
CPP technology is the delivery science that makes a transdermal GLP-1 viable - injectables dominate today because peptides are large, charged, and hard to absorb through skin.
GLP-1 is the largest single pharmaceutical category by 2030 forecast revenue. Ozempic, Mounjaro, Zepbound are the listed drugs. The pipeline is dozens of programs in different delivery formats - oral, transdermal, weekly injectable, monthly injectable. Every one of these needs a peptide CDMO partner for early-phase manufacturing.
Neuland's Module 1 commercial peptide facility is on track for mid-2026 commissioning. Module 2 is the next in line. May 12 call should give visibility on capacity utilization and Module 2 timing.
