Robust Engagements in George I Unisa Western Cape and Municipalities unite for future strategic partnerships
The Western Cape Region successfully facilitated and co-ordinated two strategic stakeholder engagements on 03 June 2026 in George, both of which were exceptionally well received and yielded positive outcomes.
The first engagement involved a site visit to a former hospital building currently under consideration by Unisa as a potential medical training facility. The second engagement, held at the George Council Chambers, brought together representatives from the George Municipality, George District Municipality, the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, and the Unisa Department of Operations and Facilities to explore opportunities for collaboration in agricultural research, the catalytic niche areas, and the potential allocation of land for the establishment of a farm to support teaching, learning and research initiatives.
These engagements reflect Unisa’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that advance academic excellence, innovation, research, and regional development.
The positive reception and constructive outcomes of the discussions underscore the value of collaborative engagement in addressing societal needs and creating sustainable opportunities for growth and knowledge generation.

"Yesterday my 19‑year‑old son was subjected to pure road rage and bullying.
An older man, with registration number MJ21MKGP, deliberately came from behind to bump his front left bumper and then got out of his car to insult and intimidate him.
At no point did my son’s driving disturb this man — this was unprovoked aggression. My son was left shaken and traumatised by the incident.
This kind of behaviour is unacceptable. Road rage is not just reckless, it’s dangerous and leaves lasting scars. We cannot allow intimidation on our roads to go unchecked. "
