This is after trying to call the @Aeroplan call center almost daily for the past three weeks. At one stage I was on hold for 1 hour 30 min before I was cut off. Is this the type of service you aspire to @Aeroplan? Truly the worst customer service I have ever had from an airline.
I had an issue with my rewards program on Qatar @qrsupport airways, so I called their call center & my issue was resolved in less than 5 minutes. Outstanding service! In contrast, I have an issue with AirCanada rewards program @Aeroplan & have not been able to speak to an agent.
Joey Chestnut makes $500,000 from being a competitive eater.
Of late I've been thinking about how to maximize potential, and increasingly, I believe it revolves around discovering what you could be the best in the world at—even if it seems small.
If Joey can open up a world of opportunities as a competitive eater and earn $500,000 per year, how much more can we achieve through more conventional paths?
Finding what you can excel at on a global scale requires deep reflection and brutal self-honesty. There is the person you wish to be and the person you truly are.
You have to embrace that. It also means prioritizing your strengths first and then your passions. It's true that you should pursue what you are passionate about, but sometimes we are passionately terrible at certain things.
I love football, but there is no way I could have ever been a football player. Prioritizing passion first would have been a poor decision.
However, if I had considered my strengths first, it could have been a viable option to try becoming a football executive, a financial consultant for transfers, or an investment banker focused on sports. I would still be doing something I am passionate about but operating from a position of strength.
One thing I have discovered about identifying your potential for world-class performance is continually segmenting your strengths, considering your background experiences and abilities, until you find a niche where you genuinely believe you could be one of the best in the world.
For example, let's say you have a strong tech background have many tech friends and studied finance, but your real passion is writing.
If you wanted to pursue writing as a career or business instead of writing general stories about sports or current events, where you would have no competitive advantage, you could look at your strengths and unique experiences and try find what you could be the best in the world at writing about?
If you started writing about Tech, the chances of success would increase. You could segment further based on your strengths and focus on writing on money raised by FinTech Start-Ups in Africa.
The segment you would be targeting may be smaller, but it is one you could potentially be the best in the world. You would be working on your passion, writing, but building on your strengths and background (tech, finance & Africa).
Furthermore, when you excel at one thing, it often opens opportunities to explore many other things. Let's consider Joey, our competitive eater friend. Most of the money he makes doesn't come from eating in competitions but from sponsorships and promotions.
The same is true for so many people. Michael Jordan has made more money from selling shoes that he ever did from basketball. Rihanna didn’t become a billionaire from music it was makeup. The list goes on and on.
The key is to become exceptionally skilled at one thing and to find what you could potentially be the best in the world at.
What is it for you?
