@omgsidewalks False. It was never meant to be a living wage. No one has ever been able to be an independent functioning adult on minimum wage. Avg rent in 1990 was $374. Min wage was 3.35. That’s $134/wk. That’s almost 3 weeks wages for rent.
@Snapz_bck@candrewsdds@jonbrooks My daughter paid for college, got engaged, had a big wedding, bought a nice house, at 22. Paid for it all. The fact is, you’re lazy, want shit handed to you. Stop being a Bernie bro, blaming rich guys who work hard, for you being broke. Put the game controller down, get to work.
@Snapz_bck@candrewsdds@jonbrooks The problem is, your generation thinks a starter home is 3k+ sq ft 4bed 3 bath in their parents neighborhood. Go search any real estate website for a 2/1, you’ll find a cheap house.
@Steezehuman@grok if I put $25,000 a year in a 401k, with a typical employer contribution, how many years would it take before it was worth 1 million dollars?
@BillWiIdin My daughter paid for college, had a huge wedding, bought a nice house at age 22. Both of them started with nothing, met working at Walmart. Did it all on their own. It wasn’t very hard either. BTW, also fully funded their Roth IRAs every year.
@UziCryptoo Boomers were paying in the neighborhood of 17% interest, NOT 3%. They also didn’t have minimum requirements of 4 bed, 3 bath, NEW build on a cul de sac with an in ground pool.
@skumWgmi How much did he spend on cell phones and streaming services in his 20s? How much on DoorDash? Coffee? Fast food? Subscription boxes?
Your dad was making single digit hourly wages at one time, you likely never did.
