72 years ago this week, Alfred Hitchcock completely changed how we look at movies, literally.

​When Rear Window hit cinemas back in August 1954, it turned a single apartment and courtyard into the setting of arguably the most tense thriller ever made.

​Like with his film Rope before it, Hitchcock was limited in space in which to tell the story, so he got creative and utilised his mastery of visual storytelling.

​By locking the whole story inside James Stewart’s room and the view from it, Hitchcock had to build the entire film around shot progression and clever pacing in editing, to build raw tension, often with no music at all.

​It's a lesson in why creative limits are actually a good thing, as necessity sparks ingenuity.

58 years ago, the very first episode of Dad's Army was broadcast.

Not only is it a timeless, harmless family sitcom that has entertained millions over the last six decades, it stands for something far more important.

​It is at its core a tribute to hundreds of thousands of men during World War Two, who after doing a hard day's work, spent their nights patrolling their local towns and villages.

​Many of these men were pensioners and if needed, would have laid down their lives to fight a Nazi invasion.

​True, the Nazi invasion never came, but they were prepared to fight and die, and that is what matters.

​God bless Dad's Army and the Home Guard who defended our country in its darkest hour.

@susiejon975 Boris and May called election quickly as won them, Truss lasted five minutes, but Sunak should have called an election sooner. Within a year as I said.

However, Sunak at least ran in a leadership contest and engaged in interviews, hustings and deabtes.

Unlike Burnham.

@PaulBray67 My post isn't party political. Boris and May called elections within a year and won, Truss lasted five minutes and Sunak Governed for two years and only called an election because he had to. So Sunak and Burnham are the issue.

@AndreaHay10 I didn't vote Labour but accept the election result and believe that if the man who received the mandate at the last election is replaced the new leader should be required to seek a mandate within a year.

@gbsaddlers1968 Boris called an election within three months of becoming PM, Theresa May nine months, Truss resigned quickly, Sunak waited nearly two years, Starmer had a mandate, and Burnham will wait two years plus.

​As I said, an election within a year should be mandatory.
