Fall teaching is here... in case it's helpful, I'm resharing handouts I use to coach my students in writing math: a 3-page handout for upper division college courses & 1-page shorter version for intro courses: https://t.co/7YzWYJoEFd #iteachmath#MTBoS
The college football social media outrage is symbolic of an issue in society.
We want the reward without doing the hard work to be able to get it. We're the spoiled fit throwing child.
We have to do the hard work. We can't just 'force' our way to something because we crave it.
Smartphones distract us whether they are on, off, in our pockets, on our tables, or not even our own. The best solution for preventing their distraction when performance mattersseems to be removing them from the picture altogether.
The truth is, our non math friends don't really understand when we talk math, only our excitement about the topic is entertaining to them. That's it.

@gradmathErisa @hollymathnerd I learned this joke in college:
A professor says to a class, "The proof of this proposition is trivial."
A student asks from his desk, "Is it?"
The professor thinks for 5 minutes, and then says, "Yes, it is."
Oh, the horror! 🙀 “adding 75 + 56. Rather than teach students to stack the numbers and to carry the excess to the tens place... they teach students to first add 70 + 50 and then 5 + 6. Then add the two sub-totals of 120 and 11 to get 131”
Another great #TPSProud story - this time highlighting the work of the district’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Department #TPSProudCares#TPSProud https://t.co/W5YkEfUczi
