I visited the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, His Eminence, Sheikh (Engr.) Sulaimon Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla, alongside other Divisional Imams across the State.
I am always encouraged by conversations that remind us of what we can achieve when we put Lagos first.
Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths and I remain committed to building on that strength as we move forward together.
Providing our student nurses with a safe and modern environment to live and study is an investment in the future of healthcare in Lagos.
We remain focused on delivering practical improvements that make a real difference in people’s lives.

There is something geopolitically powerful that is happening in Yorubaland of Nigeria and Benin republic.
For the past 100 years, indigenous African religions were brutally and systematically erased from the continent and Africa became a duopoly when it comes to faith and religion.
While Asia is still home to Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism and Taoism, Africa became Islam versus Christianity affair. From a sociological point of view, this still affirms the colonial dependency of Africa on Arabs and Europeans as regards religious affairs.
Just like in the New world 🌍 (South America and North America), the only African identity and civilisation that survived the new world was the Yoruba civilisation as an intact and powerful identity. It is therefore not surprising that the Yoruba religion is making a powerful come back at its place of origin.
Yorubaland has become the spiritual capital of African spiritual identity and it’s getting more powerful. For states to start giving holiday and special days for Yoruba religion adherents, it shows that the spirituality is no longer a “vernacular”, it’s getting more powerful and prominent again.
Yorubaland is no longer a Christian-Muslim duopoly, it has become a full flege Tripoly.
This is a good example of institutionalisation of Yoruba civilisation via the religious soft power currency.

South West Nigeria is marking Isese Day today: Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Osun have all declared today, Thursday, 20 August 2026, a work-free day for the commemoration.
Isese Day is the annual celebration of Yoruba traditional religion. I believe @raufaregbesola was the first Gov to make it an official commemoration, in 2013.
On Isese Day, we celebrate the richness of Yoruba culture, our history, traditions, language and the values passed down through generations.
May we continue to preserve our heritage, respect our roots and pass its beauty on to those coming after us.
Happy Isese Day! Àṣà wa ni òrò wa.
Calling on isese adherents, enthusiasts and lovers of Isese in Kwara, Kogi, Ondo, Ekiti and other places worldwide to respectfully ask their government to observe Ìsẹ̀se-day so by next year we can all celebrate ìsẹ̀se in unison.
I also call on @OndoStateOnline, @ekitistategov, @followKWSG, @KogiStateGov and other relevant bodies to grant the Onísẹ̀se in their respective communities a day to celebrate their culture, spirituality and tradition.
