Why don't people seem to understand that this is not a matter of physical vs digital and what is better. It is about CHOICE and the power you have as a consumer. By limiting the ways you can purchase games, PlayStation are actively making themselves more powerful and YOU the consumer, less powerful. It doesn't matter if you buy digital or physical. And it doesn't matter how many people prefer one or the other. You should ALWAYS fight for the consumer, because that's what you fucking are.
@GamingCentral26 The online component of GTA 5 didn't arrive until several months after the initial release, either. It’s also possible they haven't planned one at all this time around, since GTA Online is still generating so much revenue.
You certainly didn't anticipate a backlash of this magnitude. We’ve been having everything taken from us for decades—everything is getting more expensive: groceries, housing, fuel... and then you decide to stick it to us even more by thinking it’s a good idea to scrap physical discs entirely? All just so you can monopolize pricing, completely destroy the used market, and maximize your profits? I am—or rather, I *was*—a huge fan of yours for nearly 30 years. You probably won't care much, but you won't be getting any more of my money.
I’ve been playing the new Lego Batman non-stop for a few days (disc version), and it’s not showing up for me either—neither under trophies nor under activities. I asked a friend to check their friends list to see if anything appeared while I was playing, and—lo and behold—nothing.
That won’t reduce the rate of sick leave in my country either—quite the opposite. In the future, people will just take five days off at a stretch instead of one. Mr. Merz whines about high sick leave rates but ignores our absurdly high annual overtime figures; the guy is completely out of touch with reality. Typical corporate type.
That is because consoles are designed specifically for discs. No matter how the market evolves, you should never alter a system that works—especially not to the detriment of the customers. It’s all being spun in a positive light, but what happens if Sony’s servers suffer a total failure? What if an account gets hacked and you simply lose access to it—as recent incidents involving some PlayStation users have shown? And let’s be honest: we all know the reason isn't that 85% of users are buying digitally. It is simply about maximizing profits and retaining total control over the media offered by PlayStation.
My biggest gripe with PlayStation’s push for digitalization is that, in the future, we’ll be completely dependent on that infrastructure. If there’s an outage—whether it’s the internet, power, servers, or whatever—you won’t be able to play your digital games, let alone even log into your account. I know digitalization is the future, but fuck off, PlayStation. Back in 2013, you mocked Microsoft for this, and now you want to use your monopoly status to implement the exact same thing yourselves.
I don't understand how all these big corporations fail to realize that we gamers won't let ourselves be screwed over like that. One after another, they're shooting themselves in the foot. The PS5 Pro will definitely be my last video game console.
