Started my PhD classes two weeks ago and my professors said as we read more research, our ideas would become more focused as we question, wonder, and engage with other’s works. I was skeptical (as usual), but I read a lot this weekend and they’re right. It’s pretty cool.

I got to spend the week training our newest instructional coaches on the fundamentals of coaching, and all I can say is WOW, the future is in excellent hands!
One of best parts of being a principal is hands down leading staff professional learning (because it’s like teaching). All these folks here are practicing a re-teach for next week to help increase student learning. I work with so many of the best!
The highlight of my challenging, but intentional week: walking in to the launch of our learning acceleration block and seeing this lit circle happening with 100% pens in hands annotating as they go!
The thing about restorative practices is they definitely take longer that quick punitive moves. But the payoff also lasts much longer. It’s absolutely worth every minute.
School starts tomorrow and what I know for sure based on the number of messages this weekend - students are stressed, families are stressed, and teachers are stressed. May we approach the week with gentleness and care for all.

If we are serious about educating ALL students we MUST understand that students from marginalized communities often need more resources and support to overcome obstacles. The definition of equity is not equal.
Trying to use our identities against us will never work. As the Mexican proverb says, “they tried to bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds.”
