Exploring the order of operations by playing “Name that Number”! I increased my @DerbyDragons ‘ engagement by adding a bonus-point system for using more numbers and for using tougher operations like multiplication and division. #CPSBest
Day 2 of exploring volume. After discovering yesterday that we can count the cubes on the bottom layer (base) and multiply that by the number of layers (height), my @DerbyDragons started organizing their layers by color! We believe math should be simple and pretty! #CPSbest
My Dragons created several different formulas for finding volume all on their own! They never saw V = b x h, beforehand, they discovered it entirely by themselves. After this activity, learning the notation and finishing journal pages were a piece of cake! #cpsbest
I couldn’t help turning this team-building activity into an engineering lesson. The first round, not a single tower stood, after the lesson, we wound up with 3 standing towers, the tallest being 42cm! #cpsscience101
Here are the results of our Derby Dragons’ experiment on the difference between how long it takes to complete a group task (random 24 piece puzzle) silently vs. talking! Verbal communication wins! #cpsscience101
@MsTaylorMorales @DerbyDragons I'll send you some links! Now that we're into it, I just play peaceful music while guiding them and modeling from the front of the class!
