For the last 12 years, Garowe has turned into a district that wants to resemble the other districts of Mogadishu. This is what happens when you import the failed ideologies of the United Nations-backed project into #Puntland.

From 1998 to 2024, Puntland was a trailblazer. It followed its own path, established its own institutions, and successfully pushed through its policy agendas. Unfortunately, we accepted the orphans of the failed dictatorship and the offspring of the NGO system into the state, and look at what we have witnessed.

The last 12 years have been defined by the self-destruction of Puntland: stagnation, self-sabotage when it comes to upholding federalism, the continued surrender of its principal pillars, and the constant need to seek appeasement and approval from the United Nations-backed project in Villa Somalia.

What has happened over the last 12 years has been the destruction of the third option, the destruction of federalism, the destruction of #Puntland’s budget and economy. And today, those same people are still inside Puntland, pushing the exact same failed 12-year cycle of stagnation.

No one is pushing Balkanization. No one is pushing separatist ideologies. No one is pushing anything other than acknowledging the reality on the ground.

The decrepit, diseased bourgeoisie in Garowe, who spend their time in Nairobi, would rather talk about rainbows, butterflies, unity, prosperity, and longevity.

But what have we witnessed over the last couple of years? A federal member state that claims to be part of the United Nations-backed project in Villa Somalia attacking Villa Somalia, and Villa Somalia attacking it right back.

Yet these bourgeois individuals would have you believe that Puntland is still part and parcel of Somalia.

But when Villa Somalia unilaterally changes the constitution that defines your relationship as a federal member state, in what world are you still supposedly part and parcel of the same system while simultaneously refusing to accept the constitution that was unilaterally changed?

That is the contradiction these people refuse to confront.

What these NGO-minded individuals in Garowe refuse to accept is that the United Nations-backed project is coming to an end.

Because what is an NGO without the United Nations 🇺🇳?

Something is rotten. And pointing it out does not make you the bad guy.

Pretending everything is fine while the political structure around you is collapsing is not pragmatism.
