@OldNewYork1664 My 7th grade science teacher was a Hungarian refugee & told us a lot of stories about his time in medical school and fighting along w/his brother against the Soviets. He managed to get to Austria and eventually the US but never heard from his brother again.
@OVTweetmarck That…is a work of art my friend! When I was around that kid’s age, if you could open the (tin) beer can with the can opener for dad or an uncle, you got the first sip
@OldNewYork1664 Driven out is pretty accurate for my Mom’s family…immigrated from Ireland ~1900, started in Hell’s Kitchen, did well & bought a place in the South Bronx, then Robert Moses decided to “urban renew” the neighborhood and forced them out around 1965.
@DaveGallagher22 Wow, I don’t remember him at all, just looked him up and he did Mets games during the 1982 season. Sadly, he died young (71…j remember when that was old, but now I’m 64…)
@FrNickOFMConv Buffalo even nicer than SE Massachusetts…played golf this morning, 40 degrees with a 90 mph wind…ok, maybe 20, but very strong wind, I actually had wear long pants instead of shorts.
@LosLobosBand Believe it or not, “Lil King of Everything” has always been my favorite from that album. Followed closely by “Evangeline” and “I Got Loaded.”
@OldNewYork1664 I think the key for the Giants those two super bowls was Tom Coughlin (another Syracuse guy) was not intimidated by Belichick & Brady.
@OldNewYork1664 For sure. It’s amazing that the Giants did it again to the Pats a few years later, and then Seattle looked like they were about to as well until Pete Carroll got a little too clever at the goal line.
@OldNewYork1664 Nothing better as a sports fan to be on the winning side of a miracle finish like that! As a Syracuse alum, I was glad it was Tyree who made the catch, haha. The ATL 28-3 comeback balanced that game out for me
