Another night watching our boys play for the Marion Berries! This time, Bailey got a broken game bat from his new really tall cowboy first baseman friend, Jake Dodge!
Three Saxons playing for our new-ish local West Coast League Baseball team, the Marion Berries! Bailey was so excited to see Sawyer Nelson there AND was pumped to find out that both Noah Scharer AND Gavin Price were there, too. Go Saxons!
Teagan Scott becomes the first-ever player from Salem to win the Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year award! Scott hit .568 / .694 / 1.203 with 12 doubles, 1 triple, 11 HR, 35 RBI, 46 R, 30 BB, 7 SO, and 22 SB while catching 167 innings.
@CPrendia52195 I’m sure there’s all sorts of shady stuff down there. But I have zero investment in any of that. I don’t know anything about any of what you’re talking about, other than how dumb it looks to have 15 batting order spots in a HS lineup card with travel ball branding on it.
The Ganesha starting lineup. Never seen a lineup card for a club program and high school program. This is either the future or the Apocalypse has arrived.
We stole 108 bags in 28 games this spring at a 92% rate. Only one runner got caught stealing more than one time (2). We don’t give steal signs.
We take the gloves off, let them run, teach them as they go, and don’t get upset. It’s all just information.
Over the last 4 years, through migraines, shin injuries, a smashed nose, bumps & bruises, for all 115 games, all 742 innings, Sawyer Nelson played shortstop for each of his 16 pitchers’ 12,382 pitches. And he did it as the premiere SS in the state. He’s the Iron Man of Saxon ⚾️.
Imagine having to explain to someone seeing Wazzu vs Oregon St in Eugene that this is not a Pac 12 Tournament game, but an NCAA Regional of a Mountain West team vs an Independent team at a Big Ten stadium.
Walk up songs, pregame + between-innings music, sticker giveaways, fan experiences, and quality (+ quantity of) uniforms aren’t distractions; they’re all part of creating a culture that promotes a Major League experience. Players love it. Parents like it. Fans show up.
On this Memorial Day, join us before the game for a moment of silence to honor those who lost their lives protecting our nation. Then, OSAA 1st round playoff action: Saxons vs North Medford. First pitch at 4:00pm. #GoSaxons
Fun fact: every pitch thrown by our team in 2019 was thrown with a little gummy looking guy named Jerome in the pitcher’s pocket. Went 24-6 with a 2.49 ERA that year. Once we even stopped by a pitcher’a house on a bus ride to get it from his dirty clothes after he’d forgotten it.
Ben Greer and Sawyer Nelson both homered. Buckingham, Bowman, Fredinburg, and Timmerman combined for the shutout on the mound to send the Saxons regular season into the past. Home playoff games on Monday against another baseball team. #GoSaxons#BeatTheLine#WinAnyway
This is what often happens to Oregon teams who travel to Arizona for spring break. 100+ teams. $25,000 trip. And now you’re playing a team that’s 45 minutes from your campus back home.
You should still go, though. Just a silly wrinkle.
College athletics is so crazy now.
Cal baseball, a team located on the Pacific coast but somehow in the ACC, flew to Charlotte, North Carolina for a single-elimination conference tournament game against Stanford… a school 90 minutes from their campus.
They traveled 2,715 miles across the country to play a regional rival, lost one game, then had to hop on a 5.5-hour flight back to California 😂
College coaches and pro scouts: you will be charged by the ticket taker. That’s their job; they’re the ticket taker. If your org cannot afford the HS ⚾️ ticket cost, it might be time for a conversation with the higher ups.
It’s HS ⚾️ playoff time! If you’re working the ticket table and see someone walk up with a backpack, pen, stopwatch, & college logo, tell them to enjoy the game and keep working hard. Nobody asked you to pay to work the table, don’t ask us to pay to do our job. Carry on🫡@MSHSL
