Mets, Jets, Islanders, Devils, ND, Philly Eagles. Heavy Metal, PBR & Darts. Devils Advocate. Hater of vocal fry & unnecessary use of the word "literally". I/Me.
USA. A Mexican restaurant. We had not yet ordered anything, and the food was already arriving.
Chips. Salsa. Unrequested. Free.
I stopped the waiter. "We have not earned these."
"They just come with the table, man."
They come with the TABLE. In my land, hospitality is a debt. Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner.
This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat.
I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared.
"Did we…?"
"Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless."
Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined.
My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude."
Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man.
I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy.
Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived.
I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most.
Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.
@VinnysCorner1 Without recency bias - I would say one of the most important Knicks players of all time - if he stays with them and gets to the NBA hall - he should have his number in the rafters and a bronze statue. Dude is straight blue collar and lifts everyone else up (pay attention alien)
@metsbatflip1 Wait until you live Atlanta and have to listen to their homer announcers that call every Braves out like it’s an epic play. Blackouts suck and VPNs don’t work for MLB.
@BRappy55 Even without bias - this seems to overlay the exact reasons that led to their demise(s). Youthful culture and still developing experience/maturity. Losing may do so much more for their future development than winning if they are willing to listen.
@sportstalkmatt Super specific year chosen. Why not 1949, when the NBA was actually created or 1976, when the ABA-NBA merger took place? Don’t care about biased or slanted attempts to deflect relevance from the current season - just curious about the metric selection process.
@usafss74 Please give an example of fans that do not align with your chosen fandom that are sufferable, and how are they worse than fans of politicians?
@nanoxzednem Odd choice of grammar as well as perceived ownership. Is this a reference to a professional American sports franchise in which you have a vested interested or OnlyFans awards?
@KeenanPeachy Imagine using the word “retaded” while also attacking there for not being intelligent (and also providing zero metrics or data to support the hypothesis). If this is satire, it’s poorly done. If this is real, we really are all fucked.
