We have kicked off the @Root2Res Controlled Environment Rhizosphere Phenotyping experiment, sampling the barley genotypes. Eva Oburger @BOKUvienna joined us for this harvest and samples were taken for roots; mycorrhizae; root exudates; rhizosphere microbiome.3 more species to go
BNI trial aligned to @wish_roots is planted with 10 genotypes of each wheat and barley, including landraces. We will measure nitrification and impact on nitrifying microbes in plots. Aim-identify genotypes which utilise N more effectively and produce less greenhouse gas emissions
Today is the @EastbioDTP Thematic Session for Crops and Soils here @aberdeenuni. The title of our meeting is “Science in Society” and will focus on Science Policy in the Theme of Genetic Modification.
Super interesting video about Nitrogen-Fixing Maize and it’s potential to contribute towards solving excessive fertilisation in modern agriculture!

Here is the first announcement regarding the International Society of Root Research (ISRR) 12th International Symposium to be held in Leipzig, Germany in June 2024. Hope to see you all there! 🌾😀https://t.co/hkujgXzfkJ @RootScientists
Here at the National Collection of Industrial, Food and Marine Bacteria, we love reading about new projects focused on exploiting the potential of the marine microbiome, especially when they involve our friends @Aberdeenuni! https://t.co/vN5wQsygo5
We have agreed to run a field experiment on biological nitrification inhibition in bread #wheat and #barley in association with the @wish_roots project in 2023. The experiment will align with experiments in @Root2Res and those of the PhD of Jack Henderson @MrMicrobe_ 🌾
Less than a week to the #XmasLectures with Sue Black! 🤩 Follow us on an illuminating journey using forensic science to investigate crimes from the crime scene, through to the lab and into the courtroom.
