I just think it’s not fair to say that teachers aren’t doing their best to try and do that.

From my limited experience so far, teachers do their best to ensure that the kids get the best grade that they can get.

@HWB1410 …experiential learning means it is very difficult to essentially turn around a pupil’s ability to write in a way that is alien to them. Are we looking for them to tell us what they know or do the questions ask for much more than that? It’s tough though, I agree!

@HWB1410 Underperforming in theory work whereby they then sit an exam with words and questions that test them far beyond their KU of PE or any training programme they’ve taken part in. It tests them on their ability to write well which in a subject that is meant to be based on practical

@HWB1410 The kids choose our subject because they love kicking a ball around or playing basketball or badminton etc. Yes they need a bit help with the classroom work but our subject should be about those same kids still wanting to play those sports when they leave us!

@HWB1410 I get that but I disagree with calling out a lack of KU as that suggests that teachers don’t know what they’re doing.

I think the fact that we’re talking about cognitive science being an issue in Higher PE shows that there are 100% other factors.

@rajlindsay Personally speaking, two things were important. Giving the pupils a fair shot at getting what they were able to achieve AND using all of the evidence to ensure that they were given a grade that they deserved. It took longer but I was happy to do so without any additional payment.

@HWB1410 I think you 100% have to take other factors into account too. There are a lot of teachers who will be producing good work and results without knowing the ins and outs of cognitive science mate.

Think it’s unfair to say a lack of KU around cognitive science is a major reason

It’s been brilliant to be back involved with extra curricular sport in our school - footballers representing their school and being involved in regional trials ⚽️

@ando1410 You get a good amount answering and can see the ones who are just waiting and writing the same thing.

Works better with 4 or 5 at a time rather than the full class and then the pupils outwith that 4 or 5 can like the comments or add to them if they think something different 👍

@Adele33_Young But if anything they’ve had more input? They haven’t missed 3 months of their new Higher course. All schools were back at the normal time. A lot of kids started their new course during lockdown so actually had more input than previous years have.
